| Heatwave! | Outstanding is all I have to say about our summer here in downtown Skowhegan! In this issue, you'll note our achievement of Outstanding Main Street Of the Year by the Maine Downtown Center, as well as other great happenings in and around downtown. Hope you all enjoyed RiverFest:I know I had fun taking my first trip down the Kennebec in a raft, my first concert at the Opera House with Aztec Two-Step, and first hike along the walking trail to the eddy, all from right here in downtown! And if that wasn't all for my "staycation", I look forward to the Block Party, the Rotary Lobster Bake, the Artist Tour, and the Coburn Park Music Series, so read on!
Please help MSS continue to increase awareness about downtown revitalization by forwarding this e-newsletter to others in our community who do not already receive it.

I Am Main Street... | |
As a spin off to the successful "I Am Main Street" poster campaign created several years ago; MSS will be highlighting in the e-newsletter individuals, businesses, and organizations who are the many faces of MSS.
MSS would like to congratulate and recognize several of our "I Am Main Street" volunteers and partners this month for continually making a difference in our downtown and our community. We are pleased to honor this year's award recipients in the statewide volunteer recognition: Downtown Achievement Award for Volunteer of the Year
These
individuals have been nominated by their respective organizations and exemplify
extraordinary passion
for their communities. They often work long hours with little recognition doing
everything from planting
flowers and stuffing envelopes to leading parades and fundraising drives - and with
often nothing more than the satisfaction of knowing their downtown is a
better place thanks to their personal efforts. Lisa Veilleux, Promotions
Downtown Achievement Award for Main Street Maine Board Member of the Year
These
individuals are each nominated by their respective organizations and are
revered as respected leaders and
champions for their downtowns. They set the vision, exemplify the mission,
create the work plans and
get the job done. And they are incredibly passionate about making their organizations
- and the heart of their Main Street communities - a better place to call
home Rosie Bradley, President
Welcome old friend Steve Govoni as Design Chair, with many thanks to prior chair Doreen Poulin of Key Appliance for a great job in getting the beautiful banners in place, as well as getting the public plantings in downtown established. Welcome as well to new Design Team members Matt Dubois and Mike Hunt from the Bankery. Men with style and substance, gotta love that!
