BIKERS FOR BOOBS TWENTY-TEN
WRAP UP
Even in the rain, you care, you came and we made it happen!!
We had 445 registered riders attend the event on July 18 and well over 200 additional people who came through the gate at the Carrollton VFW. This event raised close to $28,000 and with all of our events in 2010 combined, Bikers Battling Breast Cancer has raised $90,000 this year. Not bad for a little charity with basically no corporate support! We do what we do FOR YOU and we hope if you were with us last weekend, you felt the love of those around you. Our Recognition Ceremony for our Survivors and our Military was worth all the rain-soaked miles you put in and we hope it meant as much to you as it did to us! We will have pictures up on our website very soon and our store will be open with new items to purchase if you missed any of our great merchandise that day.
There are a few people we have to thank and we want to start with the sponsors and volunteers. Special thanks goes to all the sponsors on the back of your shirts, but especially to Lawbike.com, Harley~Davidson of Atlanta and my friends over at Atlanta Beverage Co., whose generosity and the giving of their time makes all this possible. All of the sponsors provide the means in their own special way and the volunteers make it happen. This is truly a team effort and it wouldn't happen without you!!
A HUGE thanks to tia lynn, our amazing artist who gives so much of her time and talent to BBBC with her creation of our designer helmet and Biker Babe painting each year. She knows we love the bling and she brings a lot of it to our charity in such a cool way! She is the icing on our cake!

And for her amazing creation of the
PINK KICK-STARTER. This goes such a long way toward BBBC's fulfillment of our mission statement. If you haven't already seen it or checked it out, please do so at
www.lovemyjourney.com. These Pink Kick-Starters have already been donated to newly diagnosed breast cancer patients through Cobb Wellstar, DeKalb Medical and Northwest Georgia Oncology.
Special thanks to the folks from
Ride Like A Pro for coming all the way from the Florida Panhandle to show you some excellent riding tips and techniques. I hope you were able to spend a few minutes with them and took away some helpful hints. If you were not able to purchase a DVD but are interested in finding out more information, please visit
www.ridelikeaprofloridapanhandle.com.
Also a big thanks to the guys from the
Hinesville Fire Department for bringing their pink fire truck to the event. These guys are the official
"Guardians of the Ribbon" and are on the
Pink Heals Tour, traveling the state of Georgia with the firetruck to promote awareness! Look for them in a town near you or find out more about their work by visiting
www.pinkfiretrucks.org.
And of course we couldn't stop without thanking our friends at the Atlanta Parrot Head Club for bringing their cool pirate ship to the VFW. Where else can you go to a biker event and see an authentic-looking pirate ship, complete with raffle-ticket-selling pirates?! Aaarrrggghhh!
We want to thank each and every person who donated an item to our wonderful silent and live auctions. To our auctioneer, Dickie Caldwell, and our amazing DJ, Brock Eady. You guys are the best and such an integral part of the day. To our amazing band, broadBAND...Wow! www.myspace.com/broadbandgirls. You blew us away with your talent and we hope to have you back again at another event very soon! Thanks again to Steve and the VFW for providing us such a wonderful venue for our party and ceremonies.
The Breast Cancer Survivors Network has sent word that the 271 bras that we donated to them through our "Tie One On" program have already gone to great use. They only have 100 left, which means that you helped fill a great need. Please see a picture below of one of the volunteers for the BCSN (also a Survivor) and another assistant sorting through the bras that we donated.
Remember to start now asking for donations of bras from your friends and family. It's a good conversation starter, trust me! Let's see if we can raise our number of donated bras to 500 for 2011!!
On a personal note, I included the poem below in my email last year but we have a lot of new supporters and I feel compelled to include it again. It means the world to me and so do you. Thank you for your continued support. This has been a tough year with the loss of two of our Ms. 1-in-8 spokespersons,
Ms. Edna Sue Curry-Creek (2007)
and Ms. Beth Barrett (2009)
.
This dreaded disease affects too many of our families in many different ways. If you are a survivor or a caregiver, this is from me to you, my pink friends:
A World Made Of Pink
It's just a new obsession
A color which makes me go insane
Pink is not any kind of fiction
Pink always helps me gain
Faith, confidence and everything I need
Trust, joy and a bit of laughter
This color helps me succeed
Pink is the color of my eyes
Only when I look at you
Pink makes me an angel in disguise
It's the color which brings joy to me and my crew
Pink is the color so mighty, so great
Pink is the color my face turns when I'm late
Pink is the color which I can't stop thinking of
Neither day nor night
Pink symbolizes my love
Which shines in my heart for you
It's the color of a wonderland
This color shouldn't be withdrew
It's the color of my imaginary sand
Pink is the color my cat wants to be
Pink is the color of the sun which shines
Pink is the color the world can see
Pink is the color which gives me signs
