Fostering a Love of Learning  May 2009
SOE Mission:
To prepare and support teachers who are firmly grounded in the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to promote student learning.
News
The College of St. Scholastica has had more students receive the Philips Scholarship Award than any other private school in the state of Minnesota.

Rebecca Lund, sophomore elementary education major, will receive a $14,000 Philips Scholarship Award for a summer service learning project. This summer, Rebecca will be working with the Duluth School District and deaf and hard-of-hearing students. This project is mainly for students who are deaf and hard-of-hearing and mainstreamed in the schools. Many of these students have difficulties communicating with their hearing peers. Rebecca's objective is to build lasting relationships among deaf and hard-of-hearing students and their hearing peers, as well as to teach hearing students American Sign Language and about deaf culture.
Ojibwe Language & Culture Education (OLCE)
program is proud and delighted to announce the graduation of four students this year! Although we will miss them and hope they return often to share their knowledge and successes with our future program graduates, we couldn't be happier for their accomplishments.

Amanda Barras, Dustin Burnette, Frederick McDougall and Kyra Paitrick all made major contributions to the Indigenous Student Alliance, graduated with exceptional GPAs, and each brought their unique personalities and insights to our group dynamic. We are confident that the teaching skills they have gained will make a lasting and meaningful impact on the communities in which they choose to teach. To our graduates, we say "Mino-anokiiwin! Gizaagi'igoom."
