Why Now Is The Time For Your Restylane or Perlane Treatment

All hair removal lasers require multiple treatments to eradicate hair.  Only hairs with pigment can be removed.  Be cautious of anyone who tells you "their laser" works on blonde, gray or white hairs.  As long as there is some pigment - even light brown or red - the laser can work.  It is very important to understand how the laser works.  Hair growth is cyclical and depending on the area (scalp vs. legs vs. eyebrows, etc.) will determine the cycle of hair growth.  Only hairs that are actively growing can be treated with the laser.The number of treatments required to remove each hair is dependent upon the following criteria:

1. Growth cycle - must be actively growing (each body area is different).
2. Pigment - darker hairs are easier to treat.
3. Thickness - thicker hairs are easier to treat
4. Thickness/thinness of the skin of the area treated - the thicker the skin the deeper the base of the hair follicle and therefore the harder to treat (i.e. requires more treatments).

For example, thick dark hairs in the bikini area are easier to treat and require fewer treatments than similarly dark hairs on the legs because the growth cycle is very different.

When we say "about four treatments will be needed for an area" (to use an example) this will generally, for most people, permanently remove 75% of the hairs.  The remaining hairs may need an extra treatment or so to remove those stubborn hairs (or hairs that may have not been treated because they weren't growing).  These hairs, even though not gone after the standard number of treatments, will be thinner, lighter and finer than in the beginning.

The legs require the greatest number of treatments because only 20% of the hairs on our legs are in the growing phase at any one time!  Hard to believe, isn't it?  But very true.

Make sure that when you come for your treatment you have shaved the area closely.Do not pluck or wax for at least three to four weeks before a treatment or there will not be any hair to treat. Make sure the areas to be treated are not tanned (including natural tans, tanning beds or artificial tan) as this can lead to pigment problems, burning or even scarring.
