Greetings!

 top

We're finally getting a little relief from the dry weather, but it's only August, so we're not out of the woods yet!

Here's a great photo of my dad and my oldest son, Steven.  Steven is a Certified Personal Trainer, so if you'd like to get fit for fall, contact him for a special price only available to Steve's Landscaping customers.

Pruning

Still pruning!  Overgrown shrubs require more water and are more susceptible to disease and breakage.  Contact us for a pruning estimate and your shrubs will thank you!

Sprinklers

This year, our sprinkler systems are really getting a workout!  If a zone or a head is not operating properly, you'll know it pretty quick.  Let us know if you need a mid-season service call.

Backflow Testing

The New Jersey Safe Drinking Water Act requires that every irrigation system with a cross connection to the Public Water Supply be protected with an approved backflow device and that each backflow device be tested at least once annually to ensure that it is functioning properly.

Steve's Landscaping & Irrigation is Certified to test these devices, so contact us today if your sprinkler system's backflow has not been tested recently.

Mulch
It's not too late to brighten up your beds with some fresh mulch.  We are offering a special price for August - please see the coupon below.

Contact us today to find out more about any of the services mentioned above!  Or whatever else you might need!

Thank You!

Steve

Sod Webworm
Current Conditions
Angel, our fertilization technician, has diagnosed a couple of instances of Sod Webworm infestations.  These worms can damage your lawn, but oftentimes go unnoticed because the damage is typical for hot, dry weather and most people assume their lawn is simply scorched.

Luckily, the treatment for this insect is relatively simple and cost effective, especially since the spray also kills fleas, ticks and chinch bugs that might also be enjoying life in your lawn.

Let us know right away if you notice any brown spots that don't seem to go away now that we are getting some rain.  If you are one of our fertilization program customers, we will be checking your lawn shortly!

Drought Tips
Drought Map 7/12

Morris County has been getting a little rain lately, but there's no denying the dire circumstances our country is experiencing. More than half of all US counties have been designated disaster zones.

Just in case, and in order to get into the habit of conserving water, here are a couple of hints for saving water that you might want to think about:

Make sure your lawn is not being cut shorter than three inches. A higher cut encourages grass roots to grow deeper, shades the root system and holds soil moisture.

Applying fertilizer increases the need for water. Apply fertilizers that contain slow-release, water-insoluble forms of nitrogen. (If you are a fertilization customer of Steve's, this is the type of product we use.)

Try not to pour water down the drain. Use it to water your indoor plants or your garden.

Have your sprinkler system serviced to make certain it's not leaking or unnecessarily watering the road.

Call us right away if you suspect your sprinklers could be a problem!
