End of Season                                         December 2011

Season's Greetings!

 top

Well, our regular maintenance services are almost concluded for the season! This has been the toughest year, weather-wise, that I have ever experienced in my 32 years in business! Last winter we had record breaking snowfalls, it rained all spring, July was hot and dry with record-breaking high temperatures, we had a hurricane, a tropical storm, an earthquake and a freak blizzard on Halloween weekend. Whew! We're thankful that we survived and we appreciate the patience and understanding of all our customers while we coped with the curve-balls Mother Nature threw us!

Fall Leaf Clean-Up

If you contracted with us for a fall leaf clean up, it should be completed by now. Luckily, we had a stretch of good weather this month which allowed us to get to everyone on our schedule before the snow.

Sprinkler Winterization

If you forgot to have your sprinkler system winterized, please let us know right away! Because the temperatures have been unusually mild, we haven't had any systems freeze yet, but I don't think our luck will hold much longer and once our crews are off for the winter, you may face a costly repair in the spring.  Please email:

sprinklers@steveslandscaping.net

Or call 973-627-2797 and leave a message on ext # 5 for prompt service.

Snowplowing

Please don't wait until the day before the next snowstorm to return your signed snow removal contract! In the rush to equip the trucks and get the crews ready, it's easy to miss adding latecomers to our route sheets.

If you need another copy or if you would like an estimate, contact gene@steveslandscaping.net.

Facebook

Please "Like" Steve's Landscaping on Facebook. We would love to be able to communicate more immediately with our customers regarding scheduling, new services, pricing, and general announcements. If you check out our page, you'll see a cute video of my youngest son's first solo swim!  Here's Christian with his fishing pole.

New Laws Affecting the Use of Fertilizers in New Jersey

A New Jersey law, parts of which are already in effect and the rest of which apply as of January 5, 2012, further regulates the application of fertilizers, the ingredients of products, and the training of licensed applicators. At Steve's, we take the Law seriously! The appropriate people in our company attend the training sessions required by the state and are properly certified. We have already switched to the slow-release formulations the new regulations specify, and we keep the necessary documentation. What this means to you is that you don't have to worry about the safety of the chemicals being applied to your lawn - we worry about it for you and we are trained to do it right!

Prevent Winter Damage
Excessive drying is a danger for dormant evergreens during the winter.  Water evaporates from needles or leaves on windy or warm sunny days and the plant can't replenish the water from the soil because it's frozen. This leads to unsightly and potentially fatal winter desiccation. The proper application of an anti-desiccant product can protect your valuable landscaping plants from this damage. It's not too late! Contact us today for a price!  erik@steveslandscaping.net

Also, you may have noticed many arborvitaes were damaged by the early snowstorm. The once tightly conical shrubs are split and drooping like banana peels. Prevent similar damage to your shrubs: we'll wrap and/or tie up the plant for you. Early wrapping of shrubs will also discourage deer from visiting your yard for their winter dinner.
