Yes, that beautiful and lacy
Norwegian stitching work is now available here. Noted for its elegant
stitching and open lacy appearance, it looks like it might be difficult
to learn , but it's not!
Our new instructor, Allan Dempsey,
has had twenty years of teaching. He insists anyone who can handle a
needle can do hardanger. Beginning in March and April, we will be
holding two hardanger classes. One will be for beginning and the other
will be an intermediate stitches class. See down below for class
schedules and descriptions.
Beginning Hardanger Class: Thursdays March 5,12, and 26 7-9 pm.
Our
first beginner's class will be stitching Ernie Bishop's elegant and
fanciful wall pocket. Once completed, it can be used to hold small
flower arrangements. Ask to see a completed sample in the shop.
Students will learn hardbanger basics such as how to read a chart,
cutting techniques and basic stitches like kloster blocks, button hole
stitch, and woven wrapped bars. Others stitches shown will be four
sided stitch, eyelets, Algerian eyelets, dove's eye and corner dove's
eye stitches.
Registration
includes : doodle cloth for practice, pattern book, thread and needle.
Other materials will be purchased separately depending on the student's
taste in colors for thread and fabric. The class will include a
discussion on needle sizes, thread sizes, and scissors.
Intermediate Hardanger Class: Sat. March 28 April 4,11 10 am til 12
An
elegant wall sampler called an "Exercise in Ecru" by Chris J. House
will be the project for our first intermediate class. A sample for this
project is available in the shop. Students will learn a variation to
the basic kloster block, padded satin stitch, tent stitch, wrapped
spider webs, braided bars, upright cross, walnetto stitch and the bullion
stitch. The striking feature of this piece is the Woven Norwich stitch.
Registration
includes doodle cloth for practice, pattern book, needle and thread.
Other materials will be purchased separately depending upon the
student's taste in colors, thread and fabric. Even though this is an
exercise in Ecru, that doesn't mean you are limited to this color
choice. Appropriate scissors will be needed.
