HUB-BUB-BUB
The New Hub Guide The new Hub Initiative has taken off and is still growing! More local VWS events are ocurring and more VWS members are participating in these watercolor related activities. As can be expected when a new initiative is launched, questions have arisen around our newly formed Hubs. The VWS Board has written a Hub Guide in order to carefully answer these questions. You can find the Guide on our new website. Our current Hub Guide contains basic information regarding the" who, what, why and where" of our Hubs. As our Hubs continue to grow, it is expected additional questions will require thoughtful attention. The Board will address the questions as they occur and add the information to the Hub Guide. If you have Hub related questions please contact Pamela Dexter, Hub Director: Special Notice! Rewarding volunteer openings with VWS! We need a Hub Point People for Middlebury to plan fun, interesting and exciting watercolor-related events, for only a few hours of your time every month or two! Get a friend to volunteer with you to be a co-Point Person and it's even better. Other VWS hubs have great ideas you can use to plan events in your area. Please contact Pam Dexter, Hub Director at Pam Dexter to find out how you can get in on the fun too.

VOLUNTEER NEWS
There are still many ways that you can join in the fun and help the VWS: We will need a number of volunteers for the Visions of Vermont show in September and October. More details will be coming soon, but in the meantime, would you like help check in work? Hang the show? Bring refreshments to the reception? Gallery sit? Help take down the show? Please think about how you would like to participate and contact Amanda (amanda.amend@gmail.com). Do you like to write? Would you like to see more people at our VWS exhibitions? Then join us as part of our PR team. This is a way you can make a big difference without a big investment in time. You would write a brief press release for each of our shows (there's an app. for that), and our fabulous volunteer Kathy Berry Bergeron will send it to media outlets. Thank you very much, Kathy, for volunteering for the mailing piece, and thanks in advance to you who volunteers for the writing. We hope to bring many more art lovers to our shows and to raise awareness of the Vermont Watercolor Society as a leading arts organization. Please contact Amanda. Our fine communications team is growing, and we need someone to gently blend those color together. Would you like to be our new Director of Communications? Since you have a great team to work with, this Board of Directors position is one of being a liaison between the Board and the different areas of communications (PR, newsletter, web, graphics design). Please contact Amanda, if you would like to help lead in this position. Are you interested in local activities? We still need help with getting local activities going in the Middlebury/Rutland Hub and the Montpelier Hub. If you are interested, please contact Pam Dexter (ddexter1@ne.rr.com). |

ADMINISTRATIVE NEWS:
VWS Hires a Bookkeeper to Assist in our Financial Record Keeping. The VWS Board of Directors is very pleased to announce that we have hired Betty Waterman as our bookkeeper. She began her duties as of August 1st this year. Betty is a professional bookkeeper whom Peter Land, our treasurer, introduced us to this year. She will be the person who deposits all checks and writes all checks for the society; Peter remains our treasurer and will still oversee the accounting and sign the checks and report on financial activity to the Board. The VWS has been very lucky to have Peter Land, CPA serve as our treasurer. He has set our accounting up for the long term in QuickBooks with the background and knowledge that comes with being a certified public accountant. With the hiring of an independent bookkeeper the board has insured that our financial books will be kept consistently from one treasurer to the next. We also expect that these changes will help us when the time comes to seek future treasurers. For Directors and Point Persons of Hubs that need to send checks to the VWS for deposit, please send them to Betty Waterman instead of Peter Land. For persons wishing to get reimbursement for a legitimate expense on behalf of the Society please send your request using a form downloaded from our website to Betty, she will cut the check and Peter will sign it and send it on to you. Members, you will still send your membership fees to Joann, (Membership Director), your exhibition fees to Rebecca (Exhibitions Director), and your registration fees for annual meetings and workshops to Claudia (Programs Director). These Directors need your information in a timely manner and they will pass your checks on to Betty. Betty Waterman's contact information is: Better Enterprises 19 Rock Pine Drive East Thetford, VT 05043 802-785-3064 Home betterenterprises@myfairpoint.net Thank you. Mark Nielsen, Vice-President
