"From Amateur to Professional
Saturday, June 9, 10:00 Am - 4:00 PM
This very comprehensive class demystifies the business of being a visual artist. Topics include: how to build a resume, plan your own show, approach galleries, manage emotions, create a publicity tool-kit, use creative marketing, control your finances, do your taxes, and get organized. Each participant receives a booklet of worksheets and information."
Because this is such an important educational opportunity, the VWS Board wants to encourage participation and will absorb the cost of the luncheon & space for each member thus reducing the original price from $83.50 to $65.00

From Rob O'Brien:
I was accepted into the 145th American Watercolor Society's International Exhibition which opens April 3rd at the Salmagundi Club in New York City. The show runs until April 22nd. The accepted painting is a portrait of a French woman titled "Madam Pinon".
From Don Dalton:
Don Dalton had his painting, "Seacliff," accepted in the 2012 National Watercolor Society Member Exhibition. Ninety artists were selected from nearly 400 submissions.

Don Dalton has become a Copley Artist. The Copley Society, Boston, is the oldest nonprofit art association in America, whose artist membership is based on competitive review. Once a member, an artist who is accepted into five juried shows is designated a Copley Artist.
From Judy Laliberte:
Had a piece accepted into Copley Society of Art's juried Winter Members Show: Impressions, Feb 23 - March 29th. Opening reception is Thursday, Feb 23 from 5:30-7:30. Copley Society of Art's show is held at the Copley Society of Art, 158 Newbury St., Boston, MA.

There is a private preview on March 8th and the public reception and opening will be on March 9th. The show will close May 4th. Call802-496-6682 for more information.
CONGRATULATIONS to ALL!
From Mark Nielsen:
Art Connections My wife Lora and I along with two other artists from Corinth braved the snow on February 24th to drive to Montpelier VT for a mixer of creative types invited though an announcement in the online blog Vermont Art Zine (http://vermontartzine.blogspot.com/ ). Attendees included several folks from the Vermont Arts Council, a lot of artists, web designers and a few musicians numbering close to one hundred. The idea was to meet new people and make new connections. It worked for me, I met fiber artist Karen Henderson who agreed to pull together a fiber art show for Towle Hill Studio (THS) this season. Karen also runs a blog dedicated to fiber art called Surface Design Association Vermont Blog, http://www.sdavermont.blogspot.com/ I also met a new member of the Vermont Watercolor Society (Montpelier Hub) Susan Bull Riley and her husband. As luck would have it her portfolio includes botanical paintings and I was looking for a botanical artist to pair with Lois Jackson botanical artist for a THS show in June. (My wife and I are on the annual garden tour this year and I wanted to schedule a botanical art show at the studio to help cover for the fact that our gardens do not merit being on the tour!) I met many others that night including cartoonist Ed Koren who lives in Vermont and is famous for his cartoons in the New Yorker Magazine. Sonia Rae, Artist & Community Services Manager at the Vermont Arts Council, and Joe Bookchin, Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing. It was over by 7pm so the four of us had dinner at a Mexican restaurant around the corner and headed home through the ice and snow. As I understand it there may be more of these events in the future. Most of us felt it was fun and useful. |

Ted Nutall and Mel Stabin return to the
Landgrove INN Mel Stabin and Ted Nuttall enjoyed being in Vermont at the Landgrove Inn so much that they both are set to return in 2012. Ted is scheduled for June 11-13 while Mel is coming July 9-13. For those folks that missed the last workshops, this next year they get another chance.
"Both of these artists put on the best workshops I have been to and the responses from other participants have all been very positive! Before I took Ted Nuttalls worhshop this past summer I had never painted a portrait and now I am not affraid of the subject. He is a great teacher and fun too! As for Mel Stabin, he is really great to watch doing a demo. It is inspiring to see how he makes his subject look just right with just a few strokes of his brush. Both teachers are very helpful and if any one wants an exciting learning experience they can go to www.landgroveinn.com to sign up."

It is very exciting to have Holbein, USA as a VWS Partner. Being a Vermont based art supplier and full time supporter of arts and the artists who make them, it is a perfect fit for both of us. Please get to know Holbein and support them not only because they are one of our partners, but because they are a world leader in colors and mediums for artists. The Landgrove Inn is the premier, all-in-one lodging, dining and fun space in which to create, exhibit and learn. Check out the 2010 workshop schedule at www.landgroveinn.com, or call 802 824-6673.
