"Goodnight Irene"
It is over but few of us will ever forget Irene. She came and went leaving our Vermont and New Hampshire members and their families with some degree change. For most of us, the impact and change will be a short-term inconvenience but for a few it is a permanent life change.
At times like this, it is so important to be part of and feel part of a community like the VWS. I want to thank those of you who let us know how you were doing right after the storm so we could share it with your friends throughout the organization.
As a caring community, we have set aside a fund to help those of you who have experienced loss or damage of your art making tools or space. If we can help in anyway please let us know by emailing me, vws.jan@mindspring.com, We will take it from there and hopefully be able to expedite replacement and ease replacement costs.

Burlington/St. Albans
The storms held off on August 14, and 12 people enjoyed a sunny painting day at the Shelburne Vineyard. Lynn Cummings generously demonstrated several of her painting techniques, and then the group picnicked and painted among the vines. Many thanks to Claudia Carl and to Lynn Cummings for organizing and leading this activity.
Eight people traveled to Old Forge for the National Watercolor Society Exhibit. Members, L to R: Nancy Stone, Hattie Saville (not a VWS member) Marni McKitrick, Amanda Amend, Linda Disante, Dawn Ridolfo (not a VWS member) Lynn Cummings, Kathy Hart
On Sept 9, eight people made the trek to see the Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors in Old Forge, New York, comfortably accommodated in Marni Mckitrick's van. It was a spectacular show which featured some of our own: Harald Aksdal, Annelein Beukenkamp, Rob O'Brien, and honorary member Mel Stabin. The art, the excellent company and the beautiful scenery made for an extraordinary day which we plan to repeat next year (though perhaps with an overnight and plein air time.)
Our next hub activity will be plein air painting at Mt. Philo State Park on Wed. October 5, at 10:00 a.m. Rain date is October 12. Contact Lynn or Marni with questions or if you'd like to carpool. In November we'll have a framing workshop, and in December we'll be making holiday cards. Stay tuned for specifics.
New Hampshire
Our next meeting is October 1, 2011, Kelton Public Library, West Lebanon, 11:00-2:00. Bring your own lunch. We've a special demonstration of YUPO paper by our own Isobel Cochran. All are welcome!
White River Hub
The White River hub last met at Nancy Dean's studio and teaching space which was a beautiful, airy space. Nancy made delicious banana bread which added to the lunches we brought. We ate on her deck and learned about Rob O'Brian's artist trip to France, which sounded fabulous. People wishing to learn more about the accommodations, art excursions, and costs should contact Rob. The focus of our meeting was to bring a work which we would like to have critiqued by the group. We all received very helpful feedback from one another around composition, problem solving, new directions, and current projects. There was much information shared also about the classes we're taking, show information, and some great stories just about us. Contributed by Nancy Lanoue

| Call to Artists to Help Support Vermont Flood Victims
|
| | Here is a good way to help our neighbors who have been impacted by Hurricane Irene by supporting: Vermont Throws Itself Together. Please answer this call to all artists and art lovers.
Arts organizations throughout the state of Vermont are joining hands to support those Vermonters who were impacted by Hurricane Irene on August 28th. We are planning an online benefit art auction to begin as soon as our first works of art are committed.
We ask that artists donate one work of art, preferably an unframed work on paper or another medium that can be easily shipped. We will accept a contributed work from everyone who is interested in participating with the understanding that some works may not sell. Modest reserve prices will be set on each piece. Our goal is to raise money for Vermonters in need and please keep in mind that the sale price is not a reflection on the quality of your work. Art collectors are invited to donate as well.
If you would like to donate a piece to "VERMONT THROWS ITSELF TOGETHER" please email Mia Feroleto at the following address: greenandbluegallery@gmail.com. Please include a jpeg of the work, your name, title, medium, size and year of the work of art, and the retail value. Once a piece has been purchased through PAYPAL, we will notify the artist of the name of the buyer and where to send their work. This way, the artist will have contact with their new collector in the hopes that an ongoing relationship can be formed. Cost of shipping will be added on to the purchase price and participating artists will be reimbursed for this expense. Please circulate this email to your list of contacts. Collectors will be able to donate a work from their collection. Please supply the same information listed above. Contributions can be made by visiting our blog site through the link provided. If you have any questions or need additional information, please email Mia Feroleto at: greenandbluegallery@gmail.com Thank you.
