New Hampshire Hub News
by Pam Dexter

The first New Hampshire Hub meeting was held at the Kilton Public Library, West Lebanon, NH on June 11, 2011.   The discussion included:  an exhibit at Alumni Hall and the Arts Center in Haverill,NH during December; increasing NH Hub members participation in the VWS gallery; how we can offer art to our communities; what agenda items would be relevant for our next HUB meeting.

Some decisions included:

(1)the next HUB meeting will be on Oct 1, 2011 at the Kilton Public Library 11-2:00; agenda to include guest speaker with tips and information to make uploading our images onto the Gallery page easy; a demonstration of a watercolor technique; asking members to bring one of their paintings & maybe rounding up some "goodies" to take home.

 (2) Plein Air event August 6th, Silver Lake, Harrisville, NH  10-4:00 ending with an Open House from 4:00-6:00 for community folks to view our day's work. Should a sale take place a certain amount of the sale would go to the local elementary school for art supplies.  This event would be open to all VWS members, but limited to  the first 20 members to respond.  Contact Pam Dexter ddexter1@ne.rr.com.

Pam will contact Alumni Hall for details on the December exhibit. Final details will be distributed at the Fall VWS meeting during lunch break. Many thanks to Everett who arranged for us to meetat the Libray and to Carole for her notes.

Paul Jackson, AWS and NWS

Paul Jackson would like to come to Cavindish, Vermont in the fall, late September to teach a 3-day class. The class requires 12 people to make it go. If you have any interest, please contact Claudia Carl at claudiaec@yahoo.com for details.

Workshop Details

Reach the next level of artistic confidence and ability as Paul helps you explore design, color, value, textures and patterns. Through informal lectures, discussions, demonstrations and critiques you will be guided in refining your personal painting style. Come prepared to find logical and creative answers to your watercolor problems.

Paul will demonstrate the versatility of watercolor paint. You will learn how to mix colors using a limited palette and how to work in thin layers of washes to build up luminous colors. Paul will lead you step-by-step with illustrations of the painting process. Emphasis will be on what makes a good painting, planning the entire picture area, the importance of thinking through the composition, good division of shapes, value planning, what to communicate about the subject, and how to correct mistakes.

If watermedia is your passion, then this highly energized painting workshop is for you! Paul's stress-free, positive approach toward the act of painting will inspire you to loosen up and have fun again. Expect an intense, concentrated and lively workshop where you will elevate your understanding of how watercolor can be controlled.

Paul is the author of Painting Spectacular Light Effects in Watercolor. His work has been often featured in the International Artist and The Artist's Magazine. He is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society and National Watercolor Society.
