MARK DI SUVERO AT GOVERNORS ISLAND:
PRESENTED BY STORM KING ART CENTER
Friday, May 27 - Sunday, September 25, 2011
For the first time in its history, Storm King has organized a special exhibition to be presented at another location. Mark di Suvero at Governors Island: Presented by Storm King Art Center opens on New York City's Governors Island on May 27. With about a dozen large-scale works sited across the Island's 172-acres, this exhibition will be the largest outdoor presentation of di Suvero's work since the 1970s. It will include several new pieces never before seen by the public, as well as sculptures from Storm King's own celebrated installation of the artist's work and loans from public and private collections.
In addition to organizing the exhibition, Storm King is also enhancing its own presentation of di Suvero's work with several sculptures that have never been exhibited at the Art Center. The public will thus be able to view the work of this seminal artist in two distinct but complementary settings-against an urban backdrop of skyscrapers and harbor, and a pastoral one of mountains, sky, and fields.
For information on transportation to Governors Island, visit www.govisland.com.

"Intoxicating and meditative." (LA Times)

Andy Goldsworthy makes extraordinary creations, balancing the ephemeral and the timeless, and capturing them on camera as they change. Filmed in the magnificent settings that serve as Goldsworthy's canvas, Rivers and Tides is a "refreshing meditation on surrender to the idea of temporality" (The New York Times).
Following the film will be a Q&A with John P. Stern, President of Storm King Art Center.
