Although D&K has been building fully automated laminating equipment for over 30 years in the USA, the European built range, so popular today, only started life a little under 10 years ago. The high speed Polestar was the first model to be launched followed quickly by the Proteus which offered both printers and finishers alike a laminator with a very compact footprint capable of running both digital and lithographic sheets from SRA4 to B1 size.
Proteus was D&K's first compact B1 laminator to be built in Europe and complimented the ground-breaking range of equipment from D&K Group Inc., USA.
From its first showing at Drupa in 2004 the Proteus found favour all over Europe and the Middle East with installations taking place from Germany to Greece, Latvia to the Lebanon and from the UK to the UAE, rapidly reaching 100 installations.
In 2009, Proteus won the coveted Gold Medal at 
the Poligrafia exhibition in Poznan; 30 years after the first PIF Gold Medal awards and by coincidence 30 years after the birth of D&K in the USA.
Today, Proteus boasts a host of operator friendly features such as PLC controls, pneumatic film mandrels and a new 35m/minute top speed giving it the capab
ility of laminating over 4,000 B2 sheets per hour. To further aid productivity, options for pre-loading, pallet loading and stacking are also available.

Although the B2 format Jupiter and hugely successful Europa models have generally overshadowed the Proteus, there is no doubting the undeniable significance of this stalwart of the D&K range.
