D & K Europe is starting to roll out a range of matt coated films. Currently, our matt products - Polyester, Nylon, OPP & PVC - are made utilising purpose built base films. This in itself can present issues of quality and consistency as well as availability (in that most suppliers produce matt base only periodically).

D & K Group is now using the surface coating technology available from its plant in Janesville, WI, to put a controlled matt coating on to standard films and D & K Europe has taken its first steps in this field with the introduction of some matt polyester encapsulation films. As well as retaining colour definition and density the coating is scuff resistant with a pleasantly tactile feel to it.

The contrast with conventional Matt polyester is most striking in the business graphics/large format field but is also evident in conventional encapsulation work. The technology also enables the production of thicker (250µ total) matt films, where previously the use of a thick matt base was often unacceptable cosmetically. Looking further ahead, it will also enable the supply of mapped and matched rolls, both matt/matt and matt/gloss.
