D&K film is manufactured by D & K International at its facilities in Illinois and Wisconsin, USA and a variety of different base films are used. These base films are split into the following categories depending on the application: -
OPP
Used for lamination, it is coated with either a low melt or one of the SuperStick resins.
Products are: -
SOP25, a thin 25 micron Gloss laminating film preferred by high volume and trade laminating houses.
SOP30, a 30 micron Gloss laminating film giving a higher gloss level than SOP25 and improved adhesion characteristics.
MSOP30, a 27 micron Matt laminating film.
SuperStick OPP Gloss, a 42 micron Gloss laminating film for digital and other difficult output.
SuperStick OPP Matt, a 42 micron Matt laminating film for digital and other difficult output.
OPP 2/3, a 125 micron overall thickness which is used to create a write-on/wipe-off surface.
Nylon
Used for lamination, it is sold mostly with a SuperStick resin. Generally used in narrow format up to B3 sheet size. Its hygroscopic nature (it absorbs moisture), and resistance to heat, helps maintain a flat sheet especially with digital output laminated on one side only. Because of this market it is generally used in narrow formats up to B3. Nylon is primarily used in climates with high humidity levels.
Nylon is a more stable base film than is OPP and will therefore give slightly better adhesion characteristics than OPP but it is more expensive and harder to separate.
Products are: -
SuperStick Nylon Gloss BXT, a 30 micron Gloss laminating film. BXT is the burstable version of this product suitable for use on laminators with automatic sheet separation.
SuperStick Nylon Matt BXT, a 30 micron Matt (semi-matt) laminating film. BXT is the burstable version of this product suitable for use on laminators with automatic sheet separation.
SuperStick Nylon Gloss, a 42 micron Gloss laminating film. This version is not suitable for use on laminators with burster-type separation.
SuperStick Nylon Matt, a 42 micron Matt (semi-matt) laminating film. This version is not suitable for use on laminators with buster-type separation.
Polyester
Primarily used for Encapsulating or double-sided Laminating, although lighter weights can be used for laminating where additional strength is required, for example button badges or fridge magnets.
It is coated with High Melt, Low Melt, Hybrid and SuperStick resins and adhesives depending on the application.
The base film is produced in a range of thicknesses and when coated with various thicknesses of resin it gives rise to a wide range of film gauges from 27 to 250 microns
Products are: -
SoluS Gloss range of encapsulating films.
SoluS Matt range of semi-matt encapsulating films.
ADB range of Gloss and speciality encapsulating films.
SuperStick versions for problem solving applications including card manufacturing.
Pressure Sensitive coated polyesters - High Gloss laminate and high performance double-sided mount films, including optically clear and removeable products.
UV Gloss pressure sensitive over laminate.
PVC
Used in wide format applications, it is coated with Pressure Sensitive adhesives and SuperStick resin. Products range from 70-350 microns.
Products are: -
Gloss, Satin and Matt (dead matt) overlaminates, with high strength UV inhibitors.
Linerless laminates - a range of finishes including textures with a low melt
SuperStick resin that includes a very effective UV inhibitor.
