There has recently been an increase in the number of machines, which are designated as laminators and yet take film on encapsulating standard 57mm cores. Accordingly the RSL-382s, which D&K market as an entry level 1-side/2-side laminator, is supplied with adapters to accept 57mm core films in addition to the normal 25mm core.
Historically the demand for laminating films has been on 75mm cores for the larger industrial equipment or 25mm cores for desktop machines. The price of film on 25mm cores has always been much higher than that supplied on 75mm cores because it requires a further reworking process.

John Hancock, UK Sales Manager said that "As it is possible to convert films from our master rolls direct to 57mm cores, as we do with encapsulating films. We have carried out some tests to convert shorter lengths onto 57mm cores to reduce the film costs and make the RSL-382s a more attractive proposition than sub-contracting work or investing in more expensive industrial equipment".
There is the potential for end users to save over 30% and when you take into consideration somebody switching from SOP30 on 25mm core to SOP25 on 57mm core they would save in excess of 40%
In this respect, we will now supply the following OPP films at 315mm width x 500m length on a 57mm core. For the time being at least, rolls must be ordered in the following multiples.
SOP25 micron Gloss 6 rolls
MSOP30 micron Matt 4 rolls
SuperStick OPP 42 micron Gloss 3 rolls
SuperStick OPP 42 micron Matt 3 rolls
