D&K's Proteus Thermal Lamination System was awarded a Gold Medal Award at last month's Poligrafia exhibition in Poznan, Poland.
320 companies, from 18 countries, exhibited at the show this year. Around 130 products were entered in to the competition for a Gold Medal Award and following extensive research and interviews by the team of judges a total of 8 products were awarded the prestigious award.
Amongst the winners were Oce, HP, and Kodak for digital printing systems of various kinds; Westland, a German manufacturer of rubber rollers for an innovative roller; Kodak for a new kind of printing plate; Lesko, a manufacturer of machinery for flexographic industry, for machine controlling quality of web and D&K for the Proteus Thermal Laminating System.
Key criteria for the award were innovation of the design, quality of design and technologyand functionality. Supporting documentation had to be submitted by the manufacturer such as basic design, certification (safety, CE, electromagnetic compatibility etc) and reference letters from machinery users
Since its launch in 2003 the number of Proteus sold is rapidly approaching 100 machines in countries as diverse as UK, Russia, Dubai and Greece. As part of D&K's continuing improvement programme modifications have included an increase in speed to 30m per minute and a pneumatic film mandrel for easy roll changes. Further aids to the productivity of this popular line now include a pre-loading facility and sheet stacker. Also shown on the stand, hosted by D & K's Polish associate ZFP, were the Comet automatic encapsulation line (with new cross-cutter) and the B2 Jupiter auto laminator. The Jupiter will be shown at Graphitec in Paris in June with a new stacker.

 Having been exhibiting at Northprint for around 20 years D&K were pleased that this year's show went ahead as planned. Historically Northprint has been one of the best performing shows for D&K and despite there being 40% less space at the show the number of high quality leads was only 10% down on 2007. John Hancock, UK Sales Manager, said "The leads taken during the show seemed very positive and certainly exceeded my expectations. We have already booked further demonstrations on both equipment and films which will be taking place over the next few weeks. Talking to visitors the overall impression was that many were looking to bring more services in house both to save on outsourcing and create an additional profit centre". Being demonstrated on the D&K stand were the Jupiter B2 automated lamination system, Galaxy encapsulator fitted with an automated feeder and cutter. In addition D&K now offer the RSL-382s 1-side/2-side Desk Top laminator as part of its range. Also sited on Express Encapsulation's stand was the new production model Comet together with D&K's new 540mm wide Cross Cutter and an Accufeed 650 Feeder to give a fully automatic line aimed at the trade encapsulating market. |

D&K has developed a new Cross Cutter which had its UK launch at Northprint last month. Sited on Express Encapsulation's stand it formed part of a fully automated line with the new production model Comet and Accufeed 650 Feeder.
The new Cross Cutter benefits from improved design and technology. It is capable of speeds of up to 25m per minute and has been designed with the high speed trade encapsulator in mind. Designed for working width of 540mm it further enhances D&K's range of existing cutters and is supplied with its own delivery jogger.
Modular in design, it can sit behind D&K's Comet or Galaxy as part of a semi or fully automated line.
Additional safety features include a catch tray for the middle off cut which is electrically interlocked to ensure that the machine will not run when it is not in position. The cutter is also fitted with an adjustable delivery table with exit belts to drive the encapsulated/laminated sheets into the purpose built delivery jogger.
