levinechildwalkGrab your walking shoes (and kids and strollers) and hit the trails in Tega Cay! The MOMS Club of Tega Cay is hosting our last community service project on Friday, June 4 at 10 a.m.

We will be walking the big loop, starting and ending at Trailhead Park.  Our goal is to collect toys and other necessities for the Levine Children's Hospital.  We are asking everyone that participates to bring an item on the Levine Children's wish list.  Our goal is to fill up the back of a truck with all of the supplies.

Please click on the following link to view The Wish List.

The fun is not ging to end with the walk.  Please bring a picnic lunch and join us for some fun at Trailhead Park.  After lunch the MOMS Club of Tega Cay will provide ice cream for everyone.

cornholeTrails Advisory Committee and Volunteers Complete Trail Work Day

trailwork

On May 23, ten volunteers gathered at Trailhead Park, fueled up on some coffee and carbs and headed to the woods for a day of trail work.  These volunteers raked, dug, and benched the entire front section where the trail winds from Shoreline Drive down into the bottom of the valley.

Now, according to Ben Ullman, of the TC Trail Advisory Committee, the entire trail is more easy to walk and ride.  "Now what we do next is get out there and walk it, ride, test it out."   Ben also advises to go gently if the ground is still wet from recent rain.  "The more the trail gets traveled, the better the trail will become packed.  It looks a bit raw from the digging, but it will naturalize over time," adds Ben.

Big thanks goes to Tailwind Cycles for donating water bottles, Cytomax, and Gowalla bars; Breadsmith for donating sweet bread; and Phoenix Safety International for donating work gloves.  And especially, thanks to the volunteers:  Alan Barrington-Hughes, Ben Ullman, Dustin Seager, Jerry Noftsger, Jim Arnold, Jim Barker, Peggy Lee, Trevor Ford, Vic Siegel, and Will Presson.

The purpose of the Tega Cay Trail Advisory Committee is to provide Tega Cay residents and visitors with enjoyable off-road trails for biking and hiking.  For more information, contact Ben Ullman.

georgeTega Cay's George Fiegel Attends
State Senior Games

George and Judy Fiegel recently shared with us their experience at the Sourth Carlina State Senior Games.  George organized the Tega Cay Senior Games last fall.

george2Our letter from George . . .

Judie and I had a fantastic time at the state's senior games.  We attended the dinner and dance last night.  I participated in the track and field events and the
softball throw this morning.
Judie was a great help to me and she took the pictures.

I was entered in the 100 M dash, the 200M dash, and the softball throw for men between 65 and 69.  This is how I finished:

  • 100 M dash - 4th place with a time of 16.7 seconds
  • 200 M dash - 3rd place with a time of 34.3 seconds for a Bronze Medal
  • I threw the softball 149 feet for the Gold Medal.
In the running events I was really slow at the start because I didn't practice the start at the gun.  I took 3 or 4 steps and people were 10 feet in front of me.  It was hard to tell how many people I was competing against because the age categories were sometimes combined.  There weren't more than about 4 or 5 competitors in the dashes and, in the softball throw, there were about 14 participants in my age category.

If I wanted to go, I qualify to participate in the national senior games in Houston for the 100 and 200.  The softball throw is not a qualifying event for Houston.

We also got a demonstration and got to play pickle ball.  That sport will be part of the state senior games next
ear.  The woman who was running it wanted me to be an 'ambassador' for organizing pickle ball in our area.  I didn't say yes.

All the officials, volunteers, and the participants were just terrific.  There were 351 contestants in all.  We met a lot of nice people and we all had many stories to tell.  I met a woman from Fort Mill there.

- George Fiegel

We are all very proud of George's accomplishments and his example of active senior living.
futbolUpper Palmetto Futbol Club U14 Wins State

The Upper Palmetto Futbol Club U14 Boys team from the Fort Mill and Tega Cay are won the State Cup for Classic I Teams in South Carolina.  The team has now qualified for the regional competition in Tulsa Oklahoma in June.

The team was victorious over the number four seed, Mount Pleasant Soccer Club with a score of 3-1 on two goals and an assist by Caleb Bruckner along with  a sliding goal by Alex Colon.  The team then  tied the number one seeded team, CESA in a no score game.   Strong defense by Kevin Watson, Seth Nichol and Scott Crane resulted in the shut out..

On Sunday the team tied Spartanburg Arsenal Titans on two highlight reel goals by Caleb Bruckner and steady play from Hunter Striklin.

The UPFC qualified for the state championship game against the number two seed, Columbia United.  Pierce Sutton scored on a laser from 25 yards assisted by Matt Kortheur during the first five minutes of the game.  That being the only score, the UPFC had a 1-0 victory against the defending state champs.

Alec Emenhiser, Matt Long, Nick Black, Zach Pratt, Tyler Jarrett, Luke Giesemann, Brandon Fisher, Cason Antilley all helped bring the state trophy home.
