Grace Children's Home September E-News |
|
Dear Friend,
Thank you for supporting the Lord's work at Grace Children's
Home. We want to share a few ways in which the Lord has blessed our children
this summer. As you read, may you be encouraged that your prayers for the
ministry of GCH are being heard and answered.

In the Spotlight - Elizabeth
 Elizabeth, also known as
Eli around our home, is a beautiful girl inside and out. Her sweet disposition
and contagious smile make her a joy to be around. She is ten years old and
starting fourth grade. Thanks to a generous tuition sponsor, Elizabeth is
entering her third year in a private bilingual school. Elizabeth is a conscientious, bright
student. She reads, writes and
speaks well in both English and Spanish. Elizabeth also has a healthy,
competitive nature and an aptitude for sports. She especially loves and excels
in soccer. Elizabeth is like a breath of fresh air in our GCH family. We are so
thankful that the Lord placed her with us.

Back To School
Last week our children
started back to school. This was an exceptionally exciting day as this is the
first year that all our children are sponsored to attend private school. Five
years ago we began praying that the Lord would provide our children with a
better education. We observed that the public schools in Mexico
do not offer the best situation. They are overcrowded and understaffed.
They lack in funds, materials and resources. The classroom time in the public
schools is about half of that in the private schools. The Lord heard our
prayers. Every year He has provided more tuition sponsors. Praise the Lord; all
our children are now receiving an excellent education.

Summer Fun
Groups, families and individuals from all over North America
chose to spend their summer vacations serving our GCH family in Mexico. The
diversity of these visitors fostered a fun-filled summer in which our children
were ministered to in creative ways. One highlight included a week of elective
classes hosted by Elevation Church from Santa Cruz, California. Our children
chose from a variety of classes including: sewing, photography, scrapbooking,
art, cooking and karate. The Church at BattleCreek from Oklahoma hosted a
weeklong soccer tournament modeled after the World Cup. Youth from their group
paired up with our children to forms teams from Ghana, Spain, U.S., England,
Germany, Brazil and Mexico. Several visitors led our children in games, arts, crafts,
dramas, Bible stories, songs and worship. Others joined us onoutings to the
park, beach and water park. It was
with the help of North American servants that our children enjoyed this summer
to the fullest.

Swimming At The Canning's
Jerry and Linda Canning retired to Baja from Nebraska. For
the past three years they have volunteered their time and talents several days
a week at GCH. Once a week they host six children from GCH at their beautiful,
beach home in Rosarito. The afternoon usually consists of swimming, dinner and
a movie. These outings to the Canning's are monumental highlights in the lives
of our children. They look forward
to them for weeks and bask in the attention and love they receive when they are
there. Jerry and Linda's role at GCH is inspired by God. As He loves to give good
gifts to His children, He brought the Cannings to our GCH family.

Summer Camps
This summer the Lord provided several great camp experiences
for our children. In July, our five oldest children attended a weeklong "Mexico
to Mexico" evangelistic outreach. During this week, youth from local churches joined efforts to minister
to Mexican women, children and youth. In August our children attended Vacation
Bible School at Capilla Calvario Rosarito, where the theme was "La Cosecha" (The
Harvest). Also in August, our children traveled south to Ensenada for their annual
week with Genesis Expeditions. At this camp our kids were paired up with North
Americans who not only sponsored their camp experience, but also served as
Christian mentors and role models. While each of these camp experiences was
unique in its setting and activities, all three purposed to grow our children
in the knowledge and admonition of the Lord. |
