damaged hair client Protecting our bodies with sunscreen for most of us is second nature.  But did you realize that your hair needs the same UV ray protection?  Many people are unaware that their hair actually needs sun protection too.  In fact, the same UV rays that damage skin can also penetrate the hair's outer layer and oxidize hair color causing browns to fade to reddish tones and causing blondes to become too brassy.  For those who don't wear permanent or semi-permanent color they should be concerned with overexposing their hair to the sun's rays without protection.  It can cause the hair to loose some of its vibrancy, shine resulting in frizzy, rough and dry hair.  Here are a few Alexander Myles tips to protect your tresses from the sun.
  • Give your hair a break during the summer months by reducing the frequency of use with heated tools like blow dryers, flat irons or curling irons.  Consider letting your hair air dry or braid it while wet to create beautiful waves.
  • For sun exposed or sun damaged hair strands perform regular deep moisturizing hair conditioning treatments, like Moisturefusion.  
     
  • Argon oil applied to the ends of your hair will help soften, moisturize and nourish them.  Argon oil also works wonders on frizzy hair.  Argon oil can also be utilized as a pre-shampoo treatment or applied to dry strands for protection during the day.  Check out Morracanoil.  It's a fantastic argon oil.
  • For extra conditioning, apply an at-home moisturizing deep conditioner treatment to damp or dry hair.  Then place a shower cap on hair just before bedtime.  Allow the deep conditioner to soak into damaged hair overnight for extra repair and re-moisturizing benefits. 
  • If you are planning some fun in the sun at the beach or at the pool use a hat to protect delicate hair.  If that is not an option, coat the hair with conditioner to block damaging sun rays.
