Time & Tide

Greetings!

Comfort and Joy... I think of them as goals for my life as time passes and the things that truly matter come into sharper focus. An old "Doctor Who" episode had the Doctor say, "Time and tide melts the snowman". Now, of course, my brain thinks that first instead of "waits for no man", but either makes the point that things change over time.

Whatever I saw as my future as a very young horsewoman, it has morphed and bent and yielded to the situations I faced and created year by year. My focus and my picture of myself had to allow for the external forces, people and horses that crossed my determined path!

The constant in my own life, the dependable forces at work and allies beside me were the literally hundreds of horses who were my own. Not to mention hundreds more equines belonging to others. Now I see elder equines that I started as foals, remember those I knew who have passed and watch the bright spirit shine through eyes of the young ones. Time & Tide, you know!

I am so glad that things change and develop through our lives. I couldn't imagine staying just one way through a lifetime - just one static existence, predictable and "safe" in it's mediocrity. Horses are dynamic beings. Life with horses in it is a dynamic life. After pondering the past year on all of this, I have launched an important project for Dharmahorse - The Stable Women Program!

A FUTURE PATH

Have you ever mapped a future plan for your business or for your life focus or for a vacation? It really is pretty much the same in each instance... and one thing is a sure thing, there will be lots of side trips!

I have written articles for decades for magazines and there is an item used for focus and clarity called a "sidebar". I like to think of life's side trips (and business plan side trips, etc.) as "sidebars", giving us opportunities for focus and reflection along the way.

I've certainly experienced thousands of them. Sidebars of Life are truly edifying and full of clarity if we can recognize their value! I wrote an article a long time ago called "To Make A Life Full Of Joy". It has helped some people I know and is a true example of how I make "Joy Lists" to get better focused. That "Comfort & Joy" thing can really cover a lot of the struggles in life if we - instead of trying to get rid of what we don't want - concentrate on what brings us joy. It's like a sidebar that can pop up during turmoil with a nudging reminder of what happiness is.

STABLE WOMEN

I mentioned Comfort and Joy - In the past I craved adventure and winning ribbons and things that were accomplishments, but not necessarily as satisfying as my vision of them had been before experiencing them. Now I have come to realize that craving Comfort has brought strength to my body and mind and that craving Joy has brought the adventure!

By focusing upon one single aspect or path, I limited my possibilities! In this vast Universe of external and internal expressions of anything we can imagine, why would we claim only the smallness of what we can become?

Instead of thinking about how I'm going to "get through the day" (and believe me! there have been prolonged 6 month periods in my life of each day that way), I turn within and consider what new thing I've learned or seen this day; what person I've met or remembered who tweeked my belief in myself or what new smell came across the desert on the wind.

I see the largeness of all of us in the courage we have to just wake up and feed the horses (or dogs, or children), wash the dishes and then dream about writing novels, building houses, riding across continents and flying through space - whatever the dream, whatever the life. We are unlimited! We are Stable Women!
