Herb of the Week:
Cornsilk - Zea mays
Greetings!

An important nourishing herb is Cornsilk - not the silk from fresh corn that you buy at the market to eat (it could have chemicals on it or be genetically engineered), but we are talking about herbal cornsilk purchased from a trusted source.

For Kidneys, Bladder / Poultices

The dry cornsilk can be steeped as an infusion for a renal system cleansing tea. It is a great remedy for incontinence in humans, horses and dogs. Cornsilk is available in capsules as well and is often effectively paired with Uva Ursi herb for the bladder/kidneys.

We often add it by the small handful to the horses' bucket feeds in the Autumn to support renal health after long, hot Summers.

Cornsilk crushed into a coarse powder and mixed with hot water makes a drawing poultice that is useful for abscesses and infections - due to its purifying properties.
