Herb of the Week

Purslane - Portulaceae sativa
Greetings!

PURSLANE is a blood cooling and blood cleansing plant with succulent characteristics that grows in moist places. When I lived on the Organic Herb Farm commune, we grew purslane and ate it in salads, used it as healing fodder for the animals and sold it at the market.

It's fat, fleshy leaves are full of moisture and minerals pulled from deep in the soil. It has an unusual, almost salty flavor and is great with big green salads with fruits added (blueberries, mango, orange slices, etc.). Nuts and seeds will add even more, highly digestable minerals. These foods will nourish the blood and bone.

Always use herbs like Purslane from clean sources (no chemical pesticides or fertilizers used!) and take a little from a lot (leave some behind for others and the Earth).
