HERB OF THE WEEK
FENNEL - Foeniculum vulgare
Greetings!
Our Herb of the Week is a Carminative and anti-Spasmodic for the digestive tract and intestines that can stimulate the appetite in horses, humans and dogs. It reduces "gassiness", prevents flatulent colic in horses and makes the gas that is passed less smelly. It can increase the flow of milk in lactating mothers. It relaxes the respiratory tract and is expectorant.

I feed powdered Fennel Seed in horses' feed - 1 tablespoon per meal per horse. A pinch in a dog's food at each meal works and a tea brewed from the whole seeds helps people, even children.

Fennel is a sweet, pungent herb that can be added to food and the plant can be found at Markets to add fresh to salads and stews. Stomach pain caused by gas is relieved right away by Fennel tea.

Enjoy.

Sincerely,
basil
