Cayenne is not just a spicy addition to foods, it has several unique medicinal properties. As a bloodstopping powder it is safe and effective. On any profusely bleeding wound (except near the eyes or on mucus membranes) the powder can be packed to staunch the blood flow and disinfect. Do not wrap over it.
Cayenne powder can be lightly applied inside of socks to keep your feet warm in the winter and is an ingredient in super warming liniments.
It is full of Vitamin C. A tea can be made with a teaspoon of herb in a cup of boiled water or it can be added to soups to clear the sinuses, ward off colds and infections and support the circulatory system. Cayenne helps stimulate digestion and open blood vessels when taken internally.
The use of Cayenne for horses is mostly as an addition to liniment formulas and as a bloodstopping agent. For dogs, its uses are limited to emergency styptic application or careful addition internally only upon advice of a health professional. Humans can usually ingest Cayenne often; use ointments with Cayenne on arthritic joints; liniments and use in socks for warmth and on bleeding wounds.
These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA and if you have any digestive ailment, talk to your health care practitioner about using Cayenne.

I have friends who use Cayenne in capsules to prevent diverticulitis, to keep arteries clear and to "cure" colds! It sure seems to work for them.
I hope you enjoy our weekly herbal information.
