Registration Changes Coming Soon! Starting with the Spring 2012 Programs & Activities Catalog, you can register for classes as soon as the catalog is posted online! The Spring Catalog will be online (VBgov.com/Parks) and registration will begin at 9 am, Saturday, February 11.

Virginia Beach Public Schools Spring Break: April 9-13   

 

The kids may be on vacation, but chances are you still have to work! Sign your child up for one of our Spring Break Camps and they'll have a blast while you have peace of mind knowing they are in good hands.   

 

Spring Break Camps  

(Age 5-12) Your child will stay active and relieve school-related stress by participating in dynamic sports, lively games, indoor swimming, arts & crafts and exciting tournaments.

Skateboard Sessions  

(Age 6 & up) Teaches kids the basics of park skateboarding, including safety, park etiquette, and riding techniques. A skateboard and helmet are required; knee and elbow pads recommended.

Spring Break Tennis Camp  

(Age 5-17) If your child is new to the game of tennis, this is the perfect opportunity to learn basic strokes, general rules and proper tennis etiquette. Students are grouped according to experience and all campers end the week with a pizza party. Register by February 10 and pay only $125!

Get On Target with Free Archery Demo Day!

TargetEver wondered if you could shoot a bow and arrow and hit your target? This is your chance to find out! Visit us at Kempsville Recreation Center on Saturday, February 11 between 11 am and 3 pm for our free Archery Demo Day.

This open house style event provides you and your family with the opportunity to learn how to properly shoot a bow and arrow. We'll teach you the techniques and give you plenty of practice time to hone your skills. All equipment will be provided. Archery Demo Day is open to everyone age 6 and up, but children under 16 must have a parent present.

If you have already had your hands on a bow and are looking for more, consider our Intro 2 Archery or Intermediate Archery classes in March. These 4 week classes are only $59/person (age 10 & up).

Friday Night Out at Great Neck Recreation Center

Friday Night OutEnjoy a night out and leave your kids with us! You can bring the kids (age 6-12) to Great Neck Recreation Center on Friday, February 17 from 6-8:30 pm and we'll keep them active while you take the evening off. Kids will enjoy a night of fun as they play gym games, use the Sportwall and play in the gameroom. Be sure they wear socks and sneakers for a night of active play.

 

There is no cost for your child(ren) to attend, but each child must have a recreation center membership or day pass and be registered ahead of time. Registration is required at least one week in advance and can also be done in person at any recreation center. 

 

Sign up soon as space is limited and enjoy a Friday night out without having to pay the babysitter!

Youth Aquatic Leagues Focus on Skill and Fun!

   

Water PoloGive your swimmer the chance to try something new! This spring, we have two different leagues that are perfect for youth who are new to the sports, or for those looking to improve their skills.

 

Water Polo League

Our water polo league is offered to swimmers age 10-17. The league teaches kids the nuances of the sport in a low-key, competitive environment. No experience is needed! Register now!

 

Dive League

Our dive league is offered to kids age 7-15. This league is ideal for those who are new to the sport or divers who are looking to improve their skills. Emphasis is placed on diver development and fun in a low-key competitive environment. Participants will learn the proper approaches and entries off of the diving board. This program is designed for youth with little or no competitive diving experience. Register now!

Girls Softball Registration Is Just Around the Corner

Saturday, March 3 & Saturday, March 10  | Locations Vary  

 

Softball PlayerGet your daughter involved in team sports! Neighborhood Recreation Associations will hold girls softball registration on Saturday, March 3 and Saturday, March 10. Registration sites and times will be available on VBgov.com/sports by mid-February. Note the following:
  • Recreation Associations charge a registration fee.
  • Online registration is encouraged where available.
  • Proof of age is required.
    • Leagues sponsored by Parks and Recreation are open to ages 10-18.
    • Most areas sponsor leagues for children under age 10 as well.
  • Players must be a Virginia Beach resident and attend school (K-12) to be eligible. High school varsity and junior varsity softball players are not eligible.

Please Note Our Upcoming Facility Closures 

 

Woodstock Skate Plaza will be closed through January 27 for concrete repairs.   

 

The pool at Great Neck Recreation Center will be closed February 17 through March 1 for filter replacement.

 

The pool at Bow Creek Recreation Center will be closed March 5-15 for valve replacement.

 

Seatack Recreation Center will be closed March 12-18 for annual maintenance.  

 

Don't forget that your membership is good at all six Virginia Beach Recreation Centers! If your usual center is closed for maintenance, take the opportunity to visit another center. Use this locator to help you find one!
