Join Us for the Dedication of Seatack Recreation Center

The Seatack Community Civic League and Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation invite you to the Joseph V. Grimstead, Sr. Seatack Community Recreation Center Dedication Ceremony at 1 pm, Saturday, January 7 at 141 S. Birdneck Road. Additional parking is available at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 310 N. Birdneck Road.
This ceremony will honor the accomplishments of Joseph V. Grimstead, Sr. Mr. Grimstead has served as a leader in the community in many capacities. He is one of the surviving founding members of the Seatack Volunteer Fire Department, which was the nation's only all-black fire department at the time of its formation. Mr. Grimstead also served as a founding director of Seatack Community Property, Inc. In 1985, when serving as president of Seatack Community Property, Inc., Mr. Grimstead signed a deed dedicating the property at 141 S. Birdneck Road to the City of Virginia Beach for the Seatack Community Center.
In August 2011, the Seatack Community Civic League submitted a request to have Mr. Grimstead's name added to the Seatack Recreation Center to honor his many accomplishments. This request was adopted by a City Council resolution November 1, 2011.

Revamp Your Workout at Passport to Fitness!
Saturday, January 14 | Many Virginia Beach Recreation Centers
Ready to change up your workout routine? Enjoy a morning full of FREE fitness classes at our Passport to Fitness event on Saturday, January 14 from 9 am to 12:30 pm. Five recreation centers - Bayside, Bow Creek, Great Neck, Kempsville & Princess Anne - will host a flight of land and water fitness classes for you to participate in. There's no admission cost, no membership requirement, and no advance registration! Our certified instructors will teach a variety of 20-minute cardio, strength, mind & body, and dance classes, including ZumbaŽ, RIP, Drums AliveŽ, Kettlebells and much more!
Our fitness staff will be available to answer your questions and share their knowledge on the latest fitness trends. We're even offering water fitness sessions at Kempsville! Be sure to bring a yoga mat for mind & body classes, and bring a swimsuit for Kempsville's water fitness sessions. You can enter into a drawing for a 30-day Unlimited Group Fitness Pass just for attending Passport to Fitness! Get a sneak peek of the schedule of classes at each site and start planning for a fit new year!

This three day festival provides you with the opportunity to witness winter wildlife in places like Back Bay and False Cape, Fort Story, First Landing State Park, Mackay Island, Whitehurst Tract, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel area and more! Join us for the Festival Kick-Off on Friday, January 27 at the Virginia Aquarium with a feature presentation of "Winged Migration" brought to you free of charge by Back Bay Restoration Foundation. Be sure to stop by the Exhibit Hall at Princess Anne Recreation Center on Saturday, January 28 from 10 am to 4 pm to find out what the environmental groups and businesses are up to and learn ways to get involved with local efforts. There is no cost to attend the festival, but some sessions and excursions do have a fee. Membership cards are not required for this event. Register now!
