Pro Tip: Is Spin Always the Best Option?
 by USPTA Pro Scott Baxter

Although putting topspin on the ball allows for greater clearance over the net, there can be pitfalls. If you watched the US Open final between Nadal and Dyokovic, it was clear that Nadal was struggling to get any depth on many of his groundstrokes. This allowed Dyokovic to dictate play and play up in the court.

If you find yourself hitting with a lot of spin but lacking depth, try flattening your stroke to gain the depth you need to maintain control of the point. This may also allow you to move up in the court and put your opponent on the run.
