New Addition to Owl Creek Staff

Scott BaxterWe are very excited to announce the addition of Scott Baxter to our instructional team at Owl Creek Tennis Center! Beginning June 20, Scott will take on the role of Director of Tennis, in charge of tennis program development. Scott, originally from Virginia Beach, is a USPTA certified tennis professional with a Professional 1 rating.

While growing up at the beach, Scott achieved junior rankings as high as four in the Mid-Atlantic Section and top 150 nationally and then went on to play for the University of Maryland where he lettered his freshman year.

Scott is a great player, but most would argue he is an even better instructor. Scott has a well rounded teaching background including experience at many clubs throughout the Mid-Atlantic, including Quince Orchard Swim and Tennis Club, Georgetown Prep Tennis Club and most recently, the Chevy Chase Club. Scott has worked with players of all ages from beginners to USTA Ladies Teams and Division I college tennis players.

Scott has differentiated himself from other professionals in the industry with his strong knowledge base on strategy at all skill levels. Clients identify Scott's strongest attribute to be his ability to successfully communicate to a player of any skill level while keeping it fun. We are very excited to have Scott on board and look forward to the new dynamic he can bring to our program.
60' Quickstart Lines at Owl Creek

Quickstart LinesWith grants from USTA Mid-Atlantic and USTA's National office, we were able to install permanent 60' Quickstart lines to four of our courts. These blended lines will allow us a quick transition to the 10 and under format. In addition, it will allow many of our youth classes to practice and take lessons on the new courts. The blue Quickstart lines can be seen in the photo above.

Pro Tip: In Doubles, Seize the Net
 by USPTA Pro Scott Baxter

Even if you're not a confident volleyer, your goal in doubles should be getting to the net. By coming to net, you:

  • Shrink your opponents' court space
  • Put pressure on your opponents to come up with a more difficult shot such as a passing shot or a lob
  • Take your opponents out of their comfort zone of safe cross court groundstokes and force them to come up with a more difficult shot by getting to net
2011 Youth Summer Camps Begin June 20

Tennis CampDoes your child want to learn the game of tennis, or expand on his/her skills? Summer Tennis Camp is the perfect opportunity for beginners to learn the basic strokes, general rules and proper tennis etiquette and also allows more experienced participants to get into advanced drills and playing situations. Camp is open to youth ages 5-17 and offers a fun, relaxed atmosphere.

Most camps run Monday through Friday from either 9:00 am to noon or 1:00 to 4:00 pm.
We offer both an outdoor morning camp and an indoor afternoon camp for those wanting to beat the heat. Morning camps are offered at Owl Creek Tennis Center, Bayville Farms Park, Kempsville Recreation Center and Lynnhaven Middle School. All afternoon camps are held at the bubble at Owl Creek Tennis Center. Register your child in person at any recreation center or at Owl Creek Tennis Center.
