|Pro Tip: In Doubles, Seize the Net
by USPTA Pro Scott Baxter
Even if you're not a confident volleyer, your goal in doubles should be getting to the net. By coming to net, you:
- Shrink your opponents' court space
- Put pressure on your opponents to come up with a more difficult shot such as a passing shot or a lob
- Take your opponents out of their comfort zone of safe cross court groundstokes and force them to come up with a more difficult shot by getting to net
|2011 Youth Summer Camps Begin June 20
Does your child want to learn the game of tennis, or expand on his/her skills? Summer Tennis Camp is the perfect opportunity for beginners to learn the basic strokes, general rules and proper tennis etiquette and also allows more experienced participants to get into advanced drills and playing situations. Camp is open to youth ages 5-17 and offers a fun, relaxed atmosphere.
Most camps run Monday through Friday from either 9:00 am to noon or 1:00 to 4:00 pm. We offer both an outdoor morning camp and an indoor afternoon camp for those wanting to beat the heat. Morning camps are offered at Owl Creek Tennis Center, Bayville Farms Park, Kempsville Recreation Center and Lynnhaven Middle School. All afternoon camps are held at the bubble at Owl Creek Tennis Center. Register your child in person at any recreation center or at Owl Creek Tennis Center.
