2011 Bikeways & Trails Plan Complete
The citizens of Virginia Beach have shown and stated consistently over the years that they want to be able to bike and walk around the City, both for recreation and for transportation alternatives.
Virginia Beach's 2009 Comprehensive Plan and its Master Transportation Plan respond to these desires generally, and this new 2011 Bikeways and Trails Plan responds to them specifically, pointing the way towards an enhanced system of bikeways and trails, plus the programs and other initiatives that support their use. City Council adopted this plan as a component of the Comprehensive Plan in April 2011. You can view the plan online. Printed copies will become available at libraries in June 2011 and will be available for purchase at the Planning Department for $25. |

Lobby Renovations at Bayside, Great Neck & Princess Anne
| |
Front desk at Princess Anne (before) |
The lobbies at Bayside, Great Neck and Princess Anne Recreation Centers are being renovated to improve traffic flow and provide a single front desk area complete with a scanning station. Bayside Recreation Center's lobby renovations began this week. Once Bayside is complete, Great Neck's lobby will be renovated; we anticipate this work will begin in July. Princess Anne's lobby will be renovated upon completion of Great Neck and work is anticipated to begin in September.
The renovations will change the flow of traffic to improve customer service and safety, and will clearly direct customers to the front desk area. The doors at the entrance will be replaced with sliding doors that are better suited to high traffic. Lighting and seating in the lobby will also be improved, with additional seating at the pool spectator area. A layout of the new floor plan is available here.
The recreation centers will be operating as normal during these renovations, with classes and programs scheduled as usual. Safety of our customers is our primary concern; at times, customers may need to walk through a construction tunnel to access other areas of the recreation center. |
