Pro Tip: Know the Importance of Spin
 by Owl Creek Staff

Players are always asking how they can hit the ball harder, while maintaining some control over the shot. The answer is to develop a moderate amount of topspin to allow your strokes to arc back into the court. The keys are:

  • Swinging low to high on groundstrokes
  • Possibly adjusting the grip to allow for additional spin on the ball
  • Adding height over the net to create a higher bouncing ball for your opponent

Tennis CampDoes your child want to learn the game of tennis, or expand on his/her skills? Summer Tennis Camp is the perfect opportunity for beginners to learn the basic strokes, general rules and proper tennis etiquette and also allows more experienced participants to get into advanced drills and playing situations. Camp is open to youth ages 5-17 and offers a fun, relaxed atmosphere.

Most camps run Monday through Friday from either 9:00 am to noon or 1:00 to 4:00 pm.
We offer both an outdoor morning camp and an indoor afternoon camp for those wanting to beat the heat. Morning camps are offered at Owl Creek Tennis Center, Bayville Farms Park, Kempsville Recreation Center and Lynnhaven Middle School. All afternoon camps are held at the bubble at Owl Creek Tennis Center. Register your child online at the links above or in person at any recreation center or at Owl Creek Tennis Center.
