Be a Workout Warrior!

Nutrition FactsDid your New Year's resolution involve weight loss? If it did, then you might find it interesting to know that keeping a food log can double a person's weight loss according to a study from Kaiser Permanente's Center for Health Research. The study followed nearly 1,700 dieters/exercisers for six months and encouraged healthy eating and regular exercise. Ultimately, it found that the single best indicator for weight loss came down to keeping a food log.

How many hidden calories are in your daily intake that could be causing weight gain? Keeping a food log of what you eat on a daily basis is the best way to truly see what goes into your body when it comes to calories, fat, carbohydrates and protein.

Workout WarriorsWorkout Warriors is a new, eight week program that combines group workouts, fitness and nutrition education, and weekly weigh-ins. You'll receive an exercise and nutrition journal to record your activity and food intake. Each week, you'll weigh-in then join your fellow Workout Warriors for a health and fitness lesson followed by a one hour group workout that focuses on a wide range of fitness activities including kettlebells, suspension training, weight training, yoga, water fitness and much more.

Ready to make that resolution a reality? Join Workout Warriors this year!

What is TRX Suspension Training®?

TRX® demo at Get Fit Virginia Beach event

TRX® is bodyweight-based training performed with a strap that is anchored on one end with two handles on the other end. Every exercise that is conducted in the weight room with free weights, on circuit machines, on a mat or in a group fitness class can be performed on the TRX®. By utilizing the TRX® suspension straps, the primary muscle group is worked along with surrounding muscle groups that stabilize the body. This simulates a truer form of body movement in our every day lives whether at work or play.

The single point attachment provides the ideal mix of support and mobility to train strength, endurance, balance, coordination, flexibility, power and core stability all at once. The benefit of this type of training is not just for seasoned exercisers or athletes; it is relevant for everyone who seeks a method to safely improve their fitness.

TRX® Basic Training begins this coming month at Kempsville. New training formats will continually be added to challenge participants. Great Neck and Bow Creek will roll out TRX Suspension Training® this spring. Also, look for classes outdoors in our local parks this spring and summer. For more information, call Diane Benner at 385-0406.
