Update on Golf Course Operations RFP
The request for proposal (RFP) process is nearing an end and a partner has been recommended by the selection committee. City Council has agreed with the committee's recommendation and has directed us to begin the negotiation process.
Beginning in February, the Golf Division will no longer have City staff at our Bow Creek, Kempsville Greens and Red Wing Lake Golf Courses. It is with mixed emotions that we move on to our new opportunities. There are many things that we will miss: the sun coming up over the 13th green, the wildlife that would greet us every morning, the challenge of providing our guests with the best quality course that our resources would allow, and most of all, our wonderful golfers who were there enjoying our courses.
Day in and day out, you are the reason that we do what we do. It is not often in life that you get to do a job that is personally satisfying and makes people happy. The golf maintenance team got to do this every day, and every day we were rewarded with happy golfers who chose to enjoy their golf game on our courses. It has truly been our pleasure to prepare the courses for you. |
Our Final Monthly Golf Newsletter
With the changes to the public/private partnership that are occurring in February, this will be the last of the scheduled monthly newsletters. It's expected that the new operators will take over the role of communicating golf course information with you. While this particular newsletter will not come out every month, the City Golf Division will continue to use this avenue to keep you updated with any information that will impact your golfing experience at our courses. We would like to wish you and yours a happy and safe holiday season! |
Just for Fun: Golf Truths
- If your opponent has trouble remembering whether he shot a six or a seven, he probably shot an eight.
- A good golf partner is one who's always slightly worse than you.
- A golfer has one advantage over a fisherman. He doesn't have to produce anything to prove his story.
