Revamp Your Exercise Routine at Free Fitness Event!
Do you steer clear of group fitness classes? Always do the same exercise routine? Now is the time to try something new! Enjoy a morning full of FREE sample classes during our Passport to Fitness event on January 15, 2011. Five recreation centers - Bayside, Bow Creek, Great Neck, Kempsville and Princess Anne - will offer a variety of mini-classes from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. We're even offering water fitness sessions at Bow Creek! You can take a look at the class schedules for each center here. Be sure to bring water, a yoga mat for mind & body classes, and a swimsuit if you want to try a water fitness class.
Our Fitness Team will answer your questions and local vendors will be on site to give information to promote healthy lifestyles. You can also enter a drawing to win a 30-Day Unlimited Group Fitness Pass! This event is free and available to participants age 14 years and older. Start planning for a fit new year!
New Kids Cove Playground is Now Open
Construction is complete, the ribbon is cut and the new Kids Cove playground at Mount Trashmore Park is open for all children to enjoy! If you missed the Grand Opening on December 10, you can take a look at some photos of the event and new playground on our Flickr page.
Like the playgrounds at Little Island and Great Neck Park, Kids Cove is barrier free for kids of all abilities. The giant play structure has a variety of climbers and slides, but also features double-wide ramps and decking making it completely wheelchair accessible. Separate swinging and climbing areas offer something for all ages. The play areas are all built upon colorful rubber surfacing that is firm enough for strollers, walkers and wheelchairs and also helps to buffer falls.
Now if we could just get the weather to be a little more cooperative....
