Outdoor Haunted Walk (age 5 & up) Friday, October 30 from 6-8 pm | West Neck Creek Natural Area
Join us for the 3rd Annual Haunted Walk at West Neck Creek. Just in time for Halloween, take a casual evening stroll down our paved trail stopping to meet some traditional spooky animals that call Virginia Beach home*. Then continue on to the Buffington House, where we'll have children's activities and gravesite tours. The evening will conclude with fireside stories told by local historians. Grab your family and flashlights and come early so you don't miss out on any of the fun! *Self-paced walk through trail. Trail closes at 6:45pm and stories begin at 7:30pm. Cost is only $2. School Closed? Try Rec Center Day Camp
Tuesday, November 2 & Friday, November 12
Virginia Beach schools will be closed for staff days on Tuesday, November 2 and Friday, November 12. Have your child spend the day at one of our six recreation centers and they'll be sure to have a blast! The camps run from 7 am to 6 pm and the day is filled with fun activities like sports, games and arts & crafts. If your child is currently enrolled in one of our before or after school programs, the cost is $25 for the day. For those not currently enrolled in a program, the cost is $35.

Boys and Girls Basketball Registration
Saturday, October 30 & Saturday, November 6 | Times & Locations Vary
Neighborhood Recreation Associations will hold youth basketball registration on Saturday, October 30 and Saturday, November 6 thoughout the city. View specific locations and registration times for your area. Note the following:
- Recreation Associations charge a registration fee.
- Online registration is encouraged where available.
- Proof of age is required.
- Leagues sponsored by Parks and Recreation are open to ages 10-18 (age as of Dec. 31, 2010).
- Most areas sponsor leagues for children under age 10 as well.
- Players must be a Virginia Beach resident and attend school (K-12) to be eligible.
- High school varsity and junior varsity basketball players are not eligible.

Have You Been to Great Neck Park Lately?
Located along the banks of the Lynnhaven Bay, adjacent to Great Neck Recreation Center, this park is the perfect place to view beautiful fall foliage while enjoying the great outdoors with your family. The park also features multiple large and small picnic shelters with tables and grills, basketball courts, baseball fields, horseshoe pits, volleyball courts, walking trails and a large gazebo overlooking the water.

Please Note Our Upcoming Facility Closures
The pool at Kempsville Recreation Center will be closed through May 2011 for renovations.
Bayside Recreation Center will be closed through October 17 for maintenance. The pool will remain closed through October 20. The weight room will remain closed through October 24 while the floor is replaced.
All Virginia Beach Recreation Centers and Owl Creek Tennis Center will be closed on November 11 for Veteran's Day.
Don't forget that your membership is good at all six recreation centers! If your usual center is closed for maintenance, take the opportunity to visit another center. Use this locator to help you find one! |
