Football Night
Check out family football exhibits and demonstrations, and participate in fitness relays, obstacle courses, football tosses, and other activities as we feature "Little Giants" (rated PG, 107 minutes).
Bring a lawn chair or blanket, relax, and enjoy this family comedy about rival peewee football teams competing to represent the town of Urbania, Ohio and vie for a chance at the state peewee football playoffs. Brothers, Danny and Kevin O'Shea coach the opposing teams, creating the ultimate sibling rivalry and showcasing a classic story of the underdog "Little Giants" versus the well-structured "Cowboys."
Virginia Beach CERT Recruitment, Virginia Beach EMS Recruitment and Virginia Beach Police Recruitment will also be on site with educational exhibits. The Virginia Beach Sheriff's Office Child ID Program will be making child ID cards. Free raffle tickets will be available for a chance to win prizes donated by local businesses.
Children and Our Recreation Centers
As a parent, it can be hard to find the time to work out if you don't have someone to watch your child. We're frequently asked about our policies regarding what age children need to be to play in the youth areas and participate in programs. Here's a brief rundown of our rules. If your child is:
  • Age 5 and under: must be directly supervised by a responsible person age 16 or older at all times.
  • Age 6-8: may participate during scheduled program hours until 8 pm with a person age 16 or older in the building who is responsible for them.
  • Age 9-12: may participate during scheduled program hours until 8 pm.
After 8:00 pm, children under the age of 12 must be directly supervised by a responsible person age 16 or older.

Take Time to Enjoy the Great Outdoors

Girl OutdoorsWith the dog days of summer behind us, and the tourists, insects and humidity slowly heading out, it's once again time to get outside and re-discover our city's outdoor spaces! This is the perfect time of year to enjoy the fresh, crisp air and peace of mind that only the outdoors can bring. Need some ideas of what to do when you're outside with the kids? Check out this article for some simple tips that don't require a lot of supplies.

Get your preschooler excited about nature! This October on Tuesdays, bring your child out to Red Wing Park and engage them in our Explore Our Parks program. Come early, or stay after and make a day out of it! You can take advantage of the park's playgrounds, picnic areas and wooded trails. Or better yet, bring the dog too, and stop by Red Wing's dog park to let your pup release some energy! Please register in advance for this program.

Ballet, Tap and Tumbling for Tots
Ballet StudentsIn our preschool dance classes, kids learn balance, coordination, flexibility and creativity while having fun and making friends! If you have a child that loves to move, sign them up for one of these classes:
Pre Ballet introduces the basic fundamentals and terminology of ballet to your preschooler while teaching poise and grace.
Creative Movement focuses on the artistic side of dance, using musical exercises, role playing games, and props to explore movement while helping your child develop coordination and flexibility.
Tap/Ballet Combo will introduce your child to both tap dance and ballet.
Tumbling for Tots will have your child tumbling and rolling while learning some basic floor gymnastics.
We've also got a variety of dance classes for older children and adults. Registration is underway for all Fall classes. Register online via EZreg or visit any recreation center to register in person.
