Hello, Summertime.
The heat is on and the morning tee times are at a premium. With highs in the upper 90's in the afternoon, the mornings at our courses are at capacity nearly every day. To avoid long waits, we would recommend calling our Pro Shop to schedule a tee time on the day you wish to play. For those of you brave enough to take on the afternoon heat, we are offering a twilight rate at all three courses beginning at 1:00 pm throughout the week. Our website has the current list of rates for all courses.
Working to Maintain Healthy Greens
SprinklerProper water management is the first line of defense when combating heat stress on bentgrass greens. During the dog days of summer, you may see staff members running around the course with a water hose. The proper application of overhead irrigation and hand watering is essential to the greens' health.
Staff will water localized dry spots on the greens in the morning to supplement the irrigation system and will provide a cooling mist (syringe) in the afternoon. They will do their best to not interfere with play, but syringing the grass is a very time sensitive and they may try to sneak in between foursomes to provide the much needed cool down to the green. If you happen to encounter a team member syringing during your round, remember it will only take a few minutes and they will quickly be out of the way and on to the next green.

Pro Tip: Placing Your Tee Shots

by Sue Vreeland, LPGA instructor at Red Wing Lake Golf Course

Golf Tee

If you are playing a dogleg right, it might help to tee off on the left side to open up the fairway to you more.
If there is danger on the left (water or sand or out of bounds) then tee up on the same side and aim away from the danger.

Always try to find a level place to stand when making a tee shot.  Uphill, downhill, and side hill lies will have an effect on ball flight.

Fun Fact: Carpe Diem!
In 1985, while playing the par-3 17th hole at the Bangkok Country Club in Thailand, Dave Hickler hit his tee shot into a water hazard. Amazingly, the ball bounced out of the water and onto the bank. In an incredible stroke of luck, the ball had struck a foot-long carp that was swimming near the surface of the water!
