A Beach Park Getaway: Little Island Park

Beachgoers Head to Little Island Park
Little Island Park
Little Island Park, located at the southern end of Sandbridge, just north of Back Bay, offers everything you'll need for a day at the beach without the distraction of huge crowds and retail galore. Little Island features a 2000 foot beach for swimming and fishing and a 775 foot beach for surfing, with the two areas separated by a 400 foot fishing pier.
Additionally, the park offers tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts and beach volleyball, and a newly renovated playground. With convenient restrooms and concessions, inexpensive daily parking and picnic shelters available for rent, you'll enjoy a relaxing day at the beach.
Currently, the fishing pier admission fee is $6. A Virginia Saltwater Fishing License is not needed for the pier, but is required if fishing from the beach.
Parking is $2 for residents and $5 for non-residents. Buses and RV's are $10 per day. As of July 1, the resident fee for parking will increase to $3 per car and the pier admission fee will increase to $7. The non-resident parking fee and bus/RV parking fee will remain the same.

Thank You to Our Clean the Bay Day Volunteers

Clean the Bay Day was held on Saturday, June 5. Volunteers in Virginia Beach cleaned 51 zones throughout the city. A total of 2,022 volunteers cleaned over 150 miles of shoreline and roadway and collected a total of 36,142 pounds of debris! The most common items found were plastics and cigarette butts and the most unusual item found was a go-kart.

Clean the Bay Day
All over Hampton Roads, more than 5,900 volunteers - including 123 boats - removed 85 tons of trash from 300 miles of shoreline and roadway Saturday, according to a preliminary count by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. Mark your calendars for June 4 of next year to volunteer for Clean the Bay Day 2011.
This event takes place just once a year, but we remind you to keep our waterways clear of debris all year long. The debris that goes in to the local waterway will find its way to the Chesapeake Bay and will have devastating effects on wildlife. For more information on this and other events to help keep the Bay clean, go to CBF.org.
