Summer Registration is Underway!
 
Skateboard CampMake the most of your child's summer by enrolling them in exciting camps and classes offered by Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation. From swimming and sports to dancing and arts, your child will find something they love doing. While the kids learn new skills and make friends, you will have peace of mind knowing they are in good hands. Registration is ongoing as space is available. You can take a look at the Youth Programs Catalog to see complete offerings.
 
Planning ahead? Our school-year program registration begins July 17. Our before and after school programs will keep your child's body and mind active and are conveniently located in nearby schools and recreation centers. More information is available in our catalog.
It's Carnival Time at Mount Trashmore
Runs Through June 26 | Mount Trashmore Park 
 
CarnivalRides, games and traditional state fair foods are all available at the Summer Carnival at Mount Trashmore Park. Located in the parking lot off Edwin Drive, the carnival is great for all ages and offers free admission and free parking. Ride prices are below; games and concessions are priced separately.
 
Hours of Operation: The closing time indicated is the latest the carnival will operate. The carnival may close earlier at the discretion of Deggeller Attractions based on weather conditions and attendance.
 
M - Th: 6-11 pm | F: 6-11:30 pm | Sa: 2-11:30 pm | Su: 2-11 pm
 
Ticket Prices for Midway Rides:
Monday, Wednesday & Friday: $16 wristband 
Twelve Buck Tuesday: $12 wristband 
Dollar Day Thursday: All rides $1.00 each

Fitness RoomFrom June 1, 2010 through May 31, 2011, purchase or renew a 12-month membership to the six Virginia Beach Recreation Centers and get an additional month for FREE. And don't forget: Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation has no joining fees and there are no monthly fees.
 
Our Virginia Beach Recreation Centers are an economical and convenient option for your fitness needs, and provide fun and accessible programs for kids. All six centers feature an indoor pool, state-of-the-art fitness equipment, game room, gym and great activities!

The 12+1 membership promotion is available only to 12-month memberships (resident and non-resident) purchased between June 1, 2010 and May 31, 2011. Six-month, 3-month, or memberships bundled with our Out-of-School Time programs are not eligible for this promotion.
 
If you're looking to save a little extra money, purchase or renew your membership in June. Membership rates will increase slightly starting July 1. View membership information.
Congratulations to "Virginia Beach's Best All Around"
 
Best All AroundOver 30 outstanding youth and 14 adults who work with youth were honored at Virginia Beach's Best All Around Ceremony on Sunday, May 23 at Landstown High School. This ceremony recognized youth who stand out for their leadership, community involvement, positive influence or who showed courage in overcoming adversity. It also honored adults who contribute to the community through their outstanding and inspirational work with youth.
 
The Best All Around program is sponsored by the Virginia Beach Youth Opportunities Team and Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation. View the winners here.
Magic & Mystery at Family Fun Friday

Family Fun FridayEvery 3rd Friday from June until September, we will be hosting Family Fun Fridays at Mount Trashmore Park, complete with themed games, activities, music and fun for everyone, including a featured movie to enjoy under the stars! Enjoy free admission and onsite parking with movie snacks available for purchase
 
Friday, 6.18 | Magic & Mystery
Kick off the summer with a dose of fantasy and imagination with entertaining activities and the book-based film, The Spiderwick Chronicles, where you can witness a world of faeries, goblins and other magical creatures!
 
Seatack Community Youth Day 
Monday, June 21 | 10 am - 1 pm at Seatack Recreation Center, 141 S. Birdneck Road
 
Youth DayThere will be something for everyone to enjoy at Seatack Recreation Center's Community Youth Day. Kids will enjoy activities such as carnival games & prizes, face painting, the inflatable slide & bouncer. Adults can receive screenings by Sentara Health, including hearing and blood pressure checks and breast cancer screenings. The whole family will appreciate meeting birds, turtles and other animals from Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation's Outdoor Programs Unit, seeing the fire truck & educators from the Virginia Beach Fire Department and visiting the Identi-kid booth from the Virginia Beach Sheriff's Department. Free hot dogs, hamburgers, and drinks will be provided courtesy of the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia.
 
This event is free and does not require a recreation center membership. Free parking with a shuttle service from Rehoboth Baptist Church, 182 S. Birdneck Road will be available. For more information, contact Seatack Recreation Center at 437-4858.
Celebrate July 4th at Mount Trashmore Park
Sunday, July 4 | 4-10 pm at Mount Trashmore Park | Fireworks at 9:30 pm
 
July 4Celebrate America's independence with your family and friends at Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation's Annual July 4th Celebration at Mount Trashmore Park! 
 
Free children's activities, games and bouncing inflatables will be at Shelter 3 beginning at 5 pm. Also at 5, local favorite Blackbird Pond will take the stage with their mix of rock, alternative and soul. We're featuring a "Salute to the Military" with main stage performances by the rock ensemble of the U.S. Fleet Forces Band, Four Star Edition at 6 & 8 pm! Our booming fireworks display will begin at 9:30 pm.
 
While you're there, sink your teeth into some of the best festival foods, including: hot dogs, hamburgers, BBQ sandwiches, chicken pitas, Italian sausages, and more!
 
This event has free admission and limited onsite parking will be available - $5 per car, $10 bus/RV.

Youth Football and Volleyball Registration Approaching
 
football playerOrganized athletics are offered through the City-Wide Athletic Office in conjunction with volunteer Recreation Associations for youth 10 years old through 18 years old and attending K-12 schools. Youth football and volleyball registration will take place on July 10 and 17. Sites and times will be posted two weeks prior to the start of registration on VBgov.com/sports. Practice will begin in August and games begin in September. Recreation Associations will charge a player registration fee and the sports offered vary by area.

Please Note Our Upcoming Facility Closures
 
All Community Recreation Centers and Owl Creek Tennis Center will be closed July 4 & 5 for Independence Day.
 
Don't forget that your membership is good at all six recreation centers!  If your usual center is closed for maintenance, take the opportunity to visit another center.  Use this locator to help you find one!
