From swimming and dancing to pottery and painting, everyone can learn something new or brush up on old skills.  Our winter catalogs also highlight many of the recreation center amenities like our climbing walls, pools and game rooms.

Get Your Passport to Fitness!

 

Passport to FitnessDoes your New Year's resolution include losing weight or getting fit? To make 2010 a success, visit your local recreation center on January 16 for Passport to Fitness. Bring a friend or family member and sample a variety of fitness mini-classes at this free event. We offer core conditioning, cardio, mind & body, water fitness and adult fitness classes.  Learn about upcoming programs and speak with our staff to answer your fitness questions. Show up ready to work out and bring a swim suit if you want to try our water classes. You can also enter to win a 30-day unlimited group fitness pass to help you with your resolution!

Experience Virginia Beach Winter Wildlife

 
Bird WatchingPlan to attend the Winter Wildlife Festival on January 30 for the chance to witness winter wildlife all around Virginia Beach, whether it's following fascinating bird activity, spectacular whale sightings or the musings of harbor seals near the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. Learn what it takes to properly observe and identify wildlife, while embracing the eco-friendly concept of "leave no trace."
 
This event includes educational workshops such as Rain Barrel Making and Backyard Habitat, and engaging excursions that are sure to captivate outdoor enthusiasts, both novice and expert. Registration is required to attend workshops and excursions (some require a fee), so sign up early before they fill!  Geese
 
Be sure to stop by the Exhibit Hall and speak with Winter Wildlife Festival partners and learn ways to get involved with local environmental efforts. The Exhibit Hall is free to attend and will be open at Kempsville Recreation Center from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm.

Planning an Event in 2010? 

 
Reserve a Picnic Shelter in Our Parks 
 
If you're planning an outdoor event or gathering in the coming year, consider hosting it in a Virginia Beach city park.  Reserve a picnic shelter and enjoy the serenity and beauty of the park surrounded by your friends and family!
 
Picnic shelters are available in the following parks: Bayville Farms, City View, Great Neck, Little Island, Mount Trashmore, Munden Point, Red Wing and Woodstock Park. Shelter sizes range from eight to twelve tables and all shelters have grills for charcoal cooking. Bride and Groom

Get Married in Our Parks
 
Weddings are welcome in designated parks throughout the city.  We have three beautiful gardens at Red Wing Park and a gazebo overlooking the Lynnhaven Bay at Great Neck Park that are among our most popular wedding locations.

Please Note Our Upcoming Facility Closures
 
All Community Recreation Centers, Owl Creek Tennis Center, City parks and park facilities will be closed on January 1 and January 18.
 
Don't forget that your membership is good at all six recreation centers!  If your usual center is closed for maintenance, take the opportunity to visit another center.  Use this locator to help you find one!
