Master the Benefits of Swimming
Swimming is such a great exercise that it can easily become a lifetime sport with benefits for the whole body. Not only do you work all of your large muscle groups at the same time, swimming can also help improve joint flexibility, lower blood pressure, improve blood circulation, help with weight loss and increase your cardiovascular stamina. At the Virginia Beach Recreation Centers, we offer many options to get you swimming; from beginner adult swimming classes to the more advanced Masters swim program.
Swimming CoachHere are some programs that are currently being offered:

Masters Swim Workout (Age 18 & up)
Master the skills of swimming with an experienced and trained swim coach. Whether your goal is to get fit or train for a triathlon, these structured workouts will help you with stroke improvement and training techniques for a variety of strokes. This class is for the avid lap swimmer who can swim 100 meters continuous freestyle. 3 punches on a group fitness punch card.
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7-8am at Bayside
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 7:45-8:45am at Great Neck
Mondays and Wednesdays, 6:30-7:30pm at Seatack
Adult Swimming (Age 16 & up)
Learn to swim and get fit! This class includes both American Red Cross Learn to Swim skills for beginners and advanced workout/fitness techniques. Since the class is customized to the individual, it is ideal for all swimmers from beginners to those preparing for the Masters swim program.
Classes are full until January, so get make it your resolution to learn to swim in 2010!  Get registered for the January class today!

Hit the Pool and Go Kayaking!
Grab your kayak and meet us at Seatack's swimming pool to stay active in your boat this winter. This is a great opportunity to practice your rolls and cartwheels if you're hitting white water in the spring, or to perfect your stroke techniques during the cold months. 
New to kayaking? Come out to get your comfort level up in a safe environment. If you don't have a boat, we will have sit-on-tops, singles and tandems available for use. An instructor will be on hand to provide direction and assistance.

New Aqua Group Fitness Classes Debut
Grab your suit and a group fitness punch card and join us in the pool for these great new water fitness classes!
Boxing Skills and Aqua Drills
Traditional kickboxing techniques, intense calorie-burning sessions, and challenging aquatic moves all come together for an exciting and fun pool workout!

Water FitnessTuesdays, 7:30-8:30pm at Princess Anne 
Thursdays, 7:30-8:30pm at Kempsville and Great Neck 
Aqua Cardio & Tone
This class alternates between challenging cardio sessions and strength training exercises using hand buoys and noodles. It's the perfect blend of cardio, toning and fun in the water!
Wednesdays, 8-9am at Kempsville
Thursdays, 8-9am at Bayside
