Yearly Maintenance Keeps Pools in Top Shape
Why bother with draining the pool and shutting down the operation once a year? It certainly isn't time for staff vacations! On the contrary, pool operators invest some serious sweat equity to maintain the pool facility and keep the water sparkling.
Draining the pool offers an opportunity to replace missing or broken tiles, clean grates, replace underwater and overhead lighting, repair caulk, paint wall targets, reseal the coping stones and scrub the entire pool shell. In addition to work inside the empty pool, there are a variety of other maintenance tasks that need to be accomplished. Equipment is cleaned and inspected, cracked or broken deck tiles are replaced, maintenance work is performed on pool operational equipment like pumps and filters, floors are scrubbed, locker rooms are cleaned out and this year, the walls are being painted.
The recreation center and building maintenance staff pull together to get all of these jobs plus more done in the two-week period. Once the work is complete, the pool is filled back up. A proper chemical balance and reasonable water temperature must be attained before the pool can be opened. There is nothing like the first swim in a freshly cleaned pool!
