Beach's Maritime Trail Wins State Award

Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation is pleased to have received a state award that honors the Maritime Trail. The trail is innovative because it uses elements of existing infrastructure with improved crossings and signage to create a strong bicycle and pedestrian connection between three of the most popular tourist spots in Virginia Beach: First Landing State Park, the Oceanfront Boardwalk, and the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center.

The Maritime Trail, a partnership between Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation, the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center and First Landing State Park, was announced by the Virginia Recreation and Park Society as the "Best Blueway, Greenway, or Trail" for a community with a population of 150,000 or greater.

Learn About Plans for Kids Cove Playground
Thursday, October 15 at 7 pm in the Kempsville Recreation Center Theater
Kids CoveJoin us for a public information meeting where Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation's park planners and staff will share plans to modernize and expand Kids Cove playground. During this meeting you can learn about the project, provide input and ask staff questions.

The popular Kids Cove playground at Mount Trashmore Park was constructed in 1993 through the efforts of thousands of volunteers. Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation is planning for a long-term modernization of the playground to make it safer and fully accessible for children with disabilities.

Phase 1 of the project includes three distinct play areas with rubber surfaces: a general play area, a swing area, and a climber area. Plans also include four new picnic shelters, landscaping and walkways. During Phase 1, the original Kids Cove playground will remain available for use. View the concept plan for Kids Cove.

If you are unable to attend this meeting, or need more information, please contact Rick Rowe at 385-1120 or rfrowe@VBgov.com.
