Save the Date for the Lumberjack Championships!
Lumber JackGear up for thundering chain saws and swift axes as the STIHL Virginia Beach Lumberjack Championships arrive at Mount Trashmore Park on Saturday, September 19th from 12:00 - 4:00 pm! Free public admission and on-site parking available for this exciting and educational event.
With a number of buzz-worthy challenges throughout the day - including underhand chop, standing block chop, Jack & Jill sawing, hot saw, single buck and the U.S. Championships for Axe Throwing - modern day lumberjacks and lumberjills will chop, smash and saw their way through a truckload of logs in no time flat. Using super-modified chain saws, some of which are built from motorcycle engines, they can make three cuts through those logs in under 10 seconds ... and that includes starting the saw!
Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation believes all of our diverse citizens have a right to participate in community recreation and we are committed to creating equal access for everyone who may have a challenge or barrier. If your child requires additional support, we can help.  Learn more about our accommodation and inclusion services

Float, Watch, Climb, or Slide - You Decide!
SwimmerMove over kickboards, our pools are so much more than just swimming holes!  We strive to provide you and your family with the best pool experience possible.  You decide how to spend your pool time.
Float: We're bringing the big floats to Bayside Recreation Center's pool for Float-A-Rama on Sunday, August 23rd from 1-4pm.  We'll fill both the shallow and deep end of the pool with giant inflatables that offer hours of fun!  View additional dates
Watch: Each month we'll show different movies at our pools on a jumbo movie screen. Best of all, there's no additional cost - just show up, float on a noodle, and enjoy the movie.  View the schedule
SlideClimb: Try the new AquaClimb at Kempsville Recreation Center's pool - a climbing wall that hangs over the pool! No ropes or experience required, just fall in - it just makes a big ol' splash! The schedule varies each month, so please check the Kempsville Pool Calendar for the most up-to-date times.
Slide: A bright blue, ten-foot high closed flume slide awaits you at Bow Creek Recreation Center's pool!  After climbing the spiral staircase to the top, nineteen feet of corkscrew runway hurtle you to the inviting pool below!  Slide operational hours will vary from month to month and can be found on the Bow Creek Pool Calendar - look for the key code "OP w/ SLD" (open swim with slide.)
