Outstanding Youth and Adults Recognized
Virginia Beach's Best All Around Award event, sponsored by the Youth Opportunities Team and Parks & Recreation, was held at Landstown High School May 31st and honored 124 deserving individuals. The Best All Around is based on the Search Institute's 40 Developmental Assets and bestowed on youth who stand out for their leadership, community involvement, positive influence and courage in overcoming adversity and adults who intentionally and consistently build assets in their work with youth.
Ms. Judy McReynolds, Volunteer Coordinator and Executive Director of the Friends of the Juvenile Court, was honored with the 2009 C. William Boyce Youth Development Award. One of the comments submitted by Ms. McReynolds' nominee was "Judy comes to work every day with the intent of making a difference in a child's life..." Great job, Judy!
Until next year, we want to encourage everyone to intentionally and consistently build developmental assets in their work with children and teens.

Out-of-School Time Policy Change
Beginning with the 2009-2010 school year, all Out-of-School Time school year participants will be provided a recreation center membership which can be used at any of our 6 community recreation centers.
Why? We want to make it easier for children to lead a healthy lifestyle and want to show our commitment to their physical fitness and well being.
How will this work? These memberships will be valid September 1, 2009 through August 31, 2010. If your child's membership will expire before September 1, 2009, you may wish to renew at the 6-month rate.
Registration for the 2009-2010 Out-of-School Time programs starts Saturday, July 11, 2009. |
We welcome your comments and questions. Feel free to email us at fun@vbgov.com. |
