To all my patients, friends and supporters:
There are some issues that will begin to affect healthcare providers January 1, 2012, particularly small practices.
Pay Cut:
Doctors are due a 27.4% fee cut from Medicare, though we work for 20-50% of our usual charges already. In a small solo practice, you cannot pay your bills by accepting the meager fees that will result. We have been warned that more cuts in our fees may still come.
Insurance covered services will be reduced or eliminated. Medicare benefits will cover only the "more essential services" and private insurers will follow.
Dropping our insurance programs is the only choice for me to stay in practice. I do this reluctantly.
I will see Medicare/Insurance patients in the office for trimming of toenails and callouses for a reduced fee of $50. These services are not covered by Medicare now or in the future. Medi-Cal and CMS cannot be accepted in any manner.
For those who have other private insurance, the patient will receive a charge slip to mail to their insurance for reimbursement.
