BDC's animal find this week is a big blue crab found in Little Pleasant Bay. Lovingly named, Cumquat, because of his bright orange belly and spots, he came to camp for one day as a visitor to WOW. Cumquat is pictured being released back into the bay having spent a short vacation nestled into the spaghetti pot with sand, salt water, and some food. The shell was used for easy transfer and as a keepsake to remember the big adventure.
Local Oil Painter, Karen North Wells, visited BDC for the second year in row to paint "en plain aire" (in the open air) on our campus. While CREATING a painting of the BDC Office, Karen was also eager to answer campers questions about her process and about being a professional artist.
BDC PARKING LOT REMINDERS

Thank you in advance for keeping our busy parking lot safe for children and families. Please following these guidelines:

- Always follow the directions of the BDC Parking Attendants wearing orange vests.

- Put away your cell phone so that your full attention is on driving and parking.

- Use the Safe Path (through the trees) to stay away from cars.

- Turn off your car when you go to get your campers.

- While in the parking lot, children should remain with you (not playing with rocks in the parking lot.)

-  We are smoke free campus. Please refrain from smoking in your car while in our lot.

THANK YOU!

These girls CREATED pressed flower bookmarks. Studying the colors of all the flower choices was a real lesson in color theory.

Hello BDC Family and Friends,

As we approach the middle of our summer together at BDC, we are CALM, CONFIDENT, and CREATIVE. For those of us who have been working and playing together for a few weeks, we are in a wonderful groove. Campers and counselors are feeling relaxed and connected.

If you are joining us now, you will find a camp which has a nice comfortable rhythm to each day - CALM. You will find a camp where children are building their skill base in so many areas - CONFIDENT. You will find a camp where campers and staff are thinking together outside of the box - CREATIVE. Enjoy the photos and captions below - you will visually taste the flavor of BDC as we are entering Week #4!

This week, join us at our mid summer, Family Potluck Picnic this Thursday, July 19th. Details below. Our Camper/Staff Talent Show is right after the Potluck. Bring and dish to share and come feel the magic of camp for yourself
. We hope that you will join us and share your....

PS. We have invited a local ice cream truck* to join the Potluck Picnic. Special BDC Pricing will be offered on all items. Fifty cents a treat will come back to BDC to help support our Camper Scholarship Fund. This is a win-win for everyone! (*Special non high fructose corn syrup treats will be for sale on this evening.)

Campers were CALM and fascinated when watching wood turner, David Michel, who joined BDC on Creative Arts Day along with other Artists in Residence. Some activities like this one was a "watching activity" others were "doing activities." Thank you one and all for making artists out of every single BDC Camper!

Campers and tent counselors were feeling CALM and CONFIDENT
on Creative Arts Day. When we keep company with our soul, CREATIVE things happen. Have you spent time with your soul lately?

BDC's own rock band jammed all morning long on Creative Arts Day

Each BDC Buddy Group made up of one older and one younger tent group, wore the same color to camp on Creative Arts Day. They CREATED a BDC Haiku about art and camp. Look for these 5-7-5 syllable poems in next week's E-Waves.
GENERAL BDC REMINDERS

Not sure what the Camper Expectations are at BDC?
Go here to read BDC '12 Camper's Guide.

Remember to pack a HUGE lunch with lots healthy snacks. Campers burn nearly twice the amount of calories while playing at camp than they do sitting at a desk in school.

Get lots of sleep. Most campers need more sleep in the summer because their bones are growing much faster now than in the winter due to all of the vitamin D from healthy exposure to the sun.

Wishing you and your family
Courage, Hope, Good Spirit, and Peace!
