Is one of your New Year's resolutions to do more for your community? If so, the Guild is ready to help you make that happen (and it doesn't require dieting!). We need volunteers -- from helping at Openings in your finest to getting down and dirty repairing walls -- and everything in between. Please call the Guild or email me directly if you're interested. Volunteers will receive email reminders about upcoming events and learn how you can help make them hugely successful. Last year, we had terrific volunteers, and I am hoping that 2012 will be even better for the Guild. Mary Louise O'Connell mloconnell@sbcglobal.net _________________ Satellite

Festive Home 2011
I'm happy to report back that Festive Home 2011 was extremely successful! What's Next at the Guild?
Dear Guild Me mbers, Our New Year will officially begin with the 123 SOLO SHOW at the Guild opening on Saturday, January 21, 2012, 2-4pm. Three artists -- Heidi Lewis Coleman, Ann Conrad Stewart, and Fruma Markowitz -- were selected by juror Helaine Posner, Chief Curator of the Neuberger Museum. Each artist was awarded a gallery space at the Guild and has developed new bodies of work to debut at the 123 Solo Show opening. Congratulations to these talented artists!
We're also excited to announce some new Member Opportunities:
First of all, a new Guild "Pop Up" Upstairs Gift Gallery will be open for business on January 21 at 2pm. This gift gallery will showcase small works and hand-made items by Guild members as well as vintage and curated finds that our Festive Home decorating team has specially sourced for us. Small Works selected by the Guild board will be on view until February 19th. As always, our price points are reasonable and all proceeds go towards the Guild's day-to-day operations. Your support is always appreciated.
To keep the Pop Up Gift Gallery merchandise and artwork fresh, we will be putting together a second Show of Small 2 & 3-dimensional works by Guild members in late-February with a spring theme. Interested artists and artisans can submit photo/color copies of work/items on 8 1/2 x11 sheet of paper with size/price/medium/contact information attached. If the piece is framed, please include a picture of the frame as well. Small 3-D sculptures, ceramics, fiber art are also welcome. Work cannot be larger than 20"x20". The Gallery Committee will select the work and contact the accepted artists. Deadline for submissions is February 13, 2012. Drop off of accepted works will be February 17 & 18 (12-4) and pick up of unsold work will be March 30. Commission is 60% artist and 40% Guild. There is no fee to submit images. Also launching in February in the main gallery is Post-Odyssey, a themed Guild Member show. All mediums are welcome. Find more details further down in newsletter. We are looking to develop some Artist Walk & Talks during the course of this show. If interested in participating, please let us know at Drop-Off and our Programming Chair, Nancy Moore, will be in touch. In addition to these talks, we will be hosting some not-for-profit organization parties and trunk shows that will broaden our outreach into the community. Any further ideas or connections to groups who are looking to host events in our gallery space are always welcome.
The 2nd annual Guild Member Juried Show will take place this spring. This show will run from May 12 - June 22. Details including Juror selection will be emailed shortly along with a prospectus. We are also very excited to continue to develop the Guild sculpture garden as great new venue for m ember artists. Several ideas and exhibition opportunities are being explored in the next few months. Further details will follow so please be sure to read your Guild emails, follow us on Facebook or on our website atwww.rgoa.org. A lot of artists have asked about participating in Festive Home 2012. Information on submissions will be in a future e-mails, but in the meantime I strongly encourage all Guild Member artists to take advantage of our Member Work link on the Guild website. This page is used time and again to refer interested parties to artists--including some of our Festive Home decorators and Satellite Gallery venue hosts. There is no fee and it is simply done by submitting an image of your work and a link to your website to Joan Isaac, Guild Coordinator at rgoa@sbcglobal.net.
In addition to the above, plans are in the works to introduce a quarterly Show & Tell breakfast/supper club. The idea is that everyone would have a chance to bring in something that they saw that inspired them and share it with the group. We see it as time to connect with other creative types in an informal manner. The experience would be designed around being fun, informative and laid back. To accommodate a variety of schedules, we would alternate between breakfast and supper time.
Finally, I encourage members who have great ideas to come forward and share them with us. We are always interested in improving what we do, and with your help, the sky is the limit! Volunteering at the Guild is also highly recommended. Personally, I can vouch for the professional contacts and personal friends I have made in my years here.
The Guild's mission is to support artists at all levels of experience and continue to broaden its outreach into the community through education, exhibitions and programming. Any time you have to donate, on any level, is much appreciated. I hope to see you all at our 123 Solo Opening on the 21st. Until then I wish you a Happy, Happy New Year! Here's to a great 2012!
Cheers,
Rachel
