IN MEMORIAM ... The Board of Directors was very saddened to hear of former board member Donald Francis Moss's death of natural causes at the age of 90. Mr. Moss was a well-known painter for Sports Illustrator, Good Housekeeping and other magazines. He and his wife Sally were instrumental in keeping the Ridgefield Guild of Artists financially solvent during a turbulent time in the early 1990s. The money that they raised is still relied upon today. We send our thoughts and prayers to the Moss family.

 May 2010
Dear Members,
First things first, a big round of applause is due to Paola Lazzaro whose monotype 'Plant Play' won best in show for the member exhibition PLAY. Honorable mentions go out to Kathy Coe for 'Rock, Paper, Scissors'; Elizabeth Gaynor for 'Ready to Ride' and Jean Tock for 'Jackson's Toys'. The show was very well received and the Spring Fling was a lot of fun. Thank you to everyone who participated and to our co-chairs Pamela Stoddart and Mary Louise O'Connell. Also, the list of winners for CAMERAWORKS has been posted on the website by co-chairs Mary Harold and Mary Pat Devine (see link below). Congratulations to all!
As June approaches, it is time to compile our report for the General Meeting. This report will detail all the activities that took place at the Guild for the time period of July 2009-June 2010. From mounting our traditional and special exhibitions in our main galleries to all the shows in our upstairs gallery as well as our newly revamped Satellite Galleries, the Guild has had an incredible line up of group, solo and juried exhibitions. Our programming that includes year-round classes for adults and children has grown to incorporate an extended summer camp that was phenomenally successful last year. Workshop and panel discussion series collaborating with other not-for-profits as well as local businesses have also been a great new way to outreach into the community. The Guild is also in its sixth year of the popular ARTalk series that partner up with the Ridgefield Library. All of this is accomplished with one --obviously exceptional!--office coordinator, Joan Isaac; two wonderful weekend gallery sitters as well as the countless hours of donated time contributed by the Board of Directors and volunteer member artists. So here's to all that hard work combined with a true passion for our Guild that makes magic happen!
Heading into our new 2010-2011 season, new opportunities such as our first annual Juried Member show in January and the following year's launch of main gallery Solo show(s), our Guild is entering a new phase in its on-going development. We are always interested in hearing from our members and love to hear your ideas --so please keep those suggestions coming. As an arts organization it is very important to our success that we continue to evolve and grow.
I am looking forward to an incredible year in 2010-2011 and would like to thank everyone for all your support this year-- we couldn't do it without you.
With best wishes for happy sunny days ahead,
Rachel Volpone President
PS--A few months ago while I was setting up my own home studio, I happened upon Joe Fig's amazing book INSIDE THE PAINTER'S STUDIO. This book provides an insight into the studio spaces and practices of some of the most exciting contemporary artists working today. From preferred painting tools to choosing titles to studio flooring, the book is chock full of useful (and fascinating) information. We do have some limited signed copies available at the Guild for sale.
In addition, I am very excited to let you know that Joe Fig will be one of our ARTalk speakers on Sunday, October 17th at 2pm--mark your calendars!
