Juried Show Opening Sunday
The Ridgefield Guild of Artists is happy to invite the public to the opening of its 32nd Annual Juried Show on Sunday, Sept 27 from 2-5 pm at its 34 Halpin Lane gallery.
This year's juror was Amy Smith-Stewart,
gallerist and MFA instructor at the School of Visual Arts in New York
City. From over 350 entries, Ms. Smith-Stewart chose some 50 works in
a variety of media, including oils, pastels, photos and mixed media. Cash
prizes will be awarded for Best in Show, First, Second and Third Place,
and several Awards for Excellence will be presented, too. Come out and see the show, meet with members and enjoy refreshments provided by Nature's Temptations.
Exhibit: Sept 27 - Oct 31 Gallery Hours: Wed-Sun 12- 4 Admission is free Color Fields In the Upstairs Gallery
Rachel Volpone will be
the next featured artist in The Guild's Upstairs Gallery exhibiting from
Sept 19 - Oct 1.
Her show, "Color Fields," is a series of mainly abstract works that
explore and celebrate the elements of color, pattern and form. According to Rachel, "Each surface is
slowly built up to reveal intentional and accidental shapes as the canvas takes
on a personality of its own."
The opening reception will be on
Sun, Sept 27, 2-5pm in conjunction with The
Juried Show opening. Plan to come
and attend both! For further
information, call 438-8863 or visit the Guild's website at www.rgoa.org.
The recently renovated Upstairs Gallery features solo exhibits by member artists. Call the Guild for more information.
Arts Festival
The Guild of Artists
will participate in Ridgefield Arts Council Cultural Festival in Ballard
Park on Sat, Oct 3, 1-5pm.
This first-ever festival will kick off events celebrating National Arts
and Humanities Month and will be an opportunity to showcase
Ridgefield's arts community.
Ballard Park will be transformed into an interactive,
energetic artistic celebration with demon-strations, hands-on activities, seminars,
performances, lectures, etc.
RGA will have a booth at the festival featuring our newly-acquired tent. We hope
everyone will stop by and check it out. There will be on-site
art demonstrations and activities
for kids.
Instructor Leslie
Jackson and her daughter Sara will both be on hand to show their talents.
Leslie's spinning wheel will be whirling colorful hand-dyed wool into yarn, and
she'll have some wonderful examples of wool arts. Kids can help design the yarn
by helping to choose the colors. Kids will have the opportunity to card the wool and/or spin it with "twisty sticks".
Sara Jackson is an
award-winning polymer clay artist. She'll be working with clay and
will have some of her finished dragons on display. Sara is a student member of
RGA.
Member Phil Smith plans to
give hands-on demonstrations based on his very popular RGA Art Camp activities
and it should be a big hit with the kids.
Come for
a short time or spend the afternoon.
It should be a fun day for all! If you're interested in volunteering, please call Mary Louise O'Connell or Mary Pat Devine at the Guild. We're looking for creative ideas, greeters, and craft helpers.
